Order of Lakól Anu

Originally organized by the Juiwian temples of Nalidin as a relief effort during and after the agalin epidemic of the early Second Age, the Order of Lakól Anu was later established as a charity in charge of maintaining almshouses for the homeless, and to offer both food and shelter to any who need it.

The Order was originally fully funded by Juiwian temples. Later, however, it became common for the wealthy to show off their wealth through donations to charities, one of which were the almshouses of Lakól Anu. The workers within the Order were faithful priests and apprentices of Juiwia, but the almshouses themselves could also accept volunteer help, often from those they helped in the past.

Almshouses of Nalidin

Order of Lakól Anu was the first entity in Nalidin to provide housing for those who had none. The first buildings they operated in were often rundown and dilapidated after a long time without purpose or maintenance. Relying only on the funding afforded to them by Juiwian temples, their efforts were originally focused on those who had lost home and kin to agalin.

After the epidemic began to die down, Juiwia became the favored religion in southern parts of Nalidin. Through increased donations to their founders and funders, the Order of Lakól Anu could also continue working and even expand to other regions even after their original purpose was largely done.

Though they operate with the temples' blessing and under their guidance, the Order of Lakól Anu has over time become more connected and organized among themselves, and through that become more independent. Beyond resources and leadership, some almshouses have become hidden hives where information is exchanged for coin, food or security, among other things.

On the other hand, remotely located almshouses in smaller settlements and beyond difficult terrain may only provide reports to the Order leadership a few times a year and otherwise keep to themselves. Over time, they may become more part of the local community than of the Order itself.
