Pežkymi

A narrow river flowed down hillside in the west, down to an ancient river valley in south-western Nightlands. Its water glimmered like obsidian beneath sunlight before being driven deep underground through a wide but low-hanging cavern entrance. It was along this river a small coven of mižnar witches of a few Nolyur clans made their home.

For most of the year none but the mižnar inhabited the pine-sheltered area. They gathered what roots, berries and leaves they found in the surrounding woods, and sometimes trapped small animals such as forest rabbits to care for until other food ran out. Despite its unusual appearance, the black river they lived alongside of also provided fish enough for the coven to live off of.

When summer sun fell and autumn arrived, days turned shorter and the rest of the clans came together for safety and shelter over the winter months. Few large, wooden houses laid partially hidden beneath the ground, and fire pits had been placed in the middle to keep the dwellings warm. Often one such house was just enough room for one clan, even if privacy remained an inaccessible luxury.

Pežkymi's pinewood homes were never surrounded by walls, and might have appeared a defenseless target for those who had no knowledge of the mižnar or the Nolyur in general. And though the main purpose of the settlement was to offer shelter for the clans over winter months, even a small army would have had trouble defeating a coven of Nightlands' witches in their home.

Thanks to the protection of the settlement and the mižnar, neither winter winds nor beasts, nor even other people provided much of a threat for the clans huddling together for warmth over the darkest winter. And when spring again began to sprout from beneath snow and frost, the clan people left south to raid once more, leaving behind a great number of gifts and supplies in thanks, and as sacrifice for the region's spirit folk.

Like the rest of the entire Udzar region, Pežkymi became permanently abandoned during the Nolyur's exodus during the Second Age, when weather cooled and Erinär's claws grew as glaciers toward the south over the northern mountains. By the time of the Third Age when summers - and people - returned, no trace was left of the forgotten Nolyur and their settlements.
