Days of the Week

The Nor' week is seven days long. The names are associated with various aspects of the True Confession, though individual days are also associated with heathen gods.
In order, the days are as follows:

1. Tvorets (Creator)


2. Spas (Redeemer)


3. Troitsa (Trinity)


4. Evangel' (Witness)


5. Bogoroditsa (Godbearer)


6. Shostokryl (Seraphim)


7. Nedelia (Respite)

Nedelia (literally, 'no work') is the Sabbath day that concludes the week (the word is also metonymically used to refer to the week as a whole). Regulations differ as to whether it is allowed to force people to work on this day, but usually, they perform housework, or work on their own plot. Church attendance on Nedelia is expected for all parishioners.
