Session 25 - Irina's Passion

General Summary

The next day, after resting in the evening, the party regrouped to try to decide what needed to be done, and to recover their injuries. Lada proposed a possible solution, one that used a mystic ritual to protect the town from supernatural forces. However, Irina was dubious of the success of the mission. After burying of the bodies of those who had died in the battle, Irina felt that this blood sacrifice would be just as fruitless as when Khoma fed the people in town the body of Gavrilo. Not to mention how sacrilegious it was.
Hamal searched the town for any additional dead bodies, found in the river or otherwise, and found signs of a break-in, one leading to the home of Gavrilo's wife. He searched it, finding signs of the family being chased to the basement. When he entered, the whole family, including the children, rose from their mortal injuries; turned undead from the lethal strike made by the riders.
Hamal quickly blockaded the basement, and sought advice from Irina, who believed the injuries of both Lada and Ivan were too severe, and that the two of them, with the protection of Gaal, would be able to deal with this threat. When they went into the home, just the two of them, and released the blockade, the undead family attacked. Irina's faith in Gaal faltered for just a moment at the horrible sight, and the undead tore into them.
Hamal ran, carrying Irina's limp and bleeding body, to Lada's place, but there was nothing to be done. Irina was dead. And soon after, the church, and the rest of the town, knew it. More people were attacked by the undead family, before they family left to the west. The nuns were stricken, and the people were furious. Too many had died, and now it seemed like Gaal had abandoned even the most faithful of them.
The town was looking for somebody to blame, and the party, full of people of cursed forms and foreign powers, were to be easy targets. Ivan immediately knew this would be the case, and recommended Lada leave. After speaking with the acting Mother Superior, she too believed the town would set their vengeance on the party. Lada, Ivan, and Hamal were promised protection by the Mother Superior long enough to see to the funeral of Irina, but recommended they leave until then. The party agreed, wanting to meet with Vashti, who had left the town to rest in her hidden cave away from the town. After all, someone needed to be informed of the terrible news.
