Personal history
Darolim Bloodaxe was born to Horkahm Darkhammer, a Duergar blacksmith employed by the Runemantle clan, and Mysma Glaeheln, a seamstress within the city of Vor Todir. Darolim was always fiercely competitive growing up, always trying to one up the achievements of his peers and declaring himself the leader of his group of friends, if they could be called that. He used fear and intimidation to keep a healthy supply of people around him, ready at a moment's notice to drop one of them if they ever proved their disloyalty to him. A few who dared go against him found themselves beaten and bruised by his group of thugs, and they would often slink away into the shadows afterwards, trying their best to avoid his wrath again.
Darolim isn't called Bloodaxe for no reason. When he was a soldier of the Runemantles' army, the Burimdar, he was frequently reprimanded for his aggressive nature and brutal methods, even resorting to torture. However, he managed to rise through the ranks quickly, not caring who he trampled on to get there. It was a common theme that those around him were discharged from the Burimdar if they stood against him, and many of them were never heard from again.
He was most known for his high effectiveness in combat, storming forts and castles and rarely leaving a single enemy alive. As a soldier, the battle that changed his life was at the Haarton Gorge, one of the passes leading from the plains of the Frostfury Mountains to the Burning Wastes. He led an assault with just four other dwarves on the fort the Realm of Formaris established there. The Duergar general in charge of his battalion ordered him to ignore the fort, that it would be an unnecessary provocation. Darolim ignored the warning.
Under the cover of darkness, he led the other soldiers to the wall, managing to sneak inside without raising the alarm. They made their way to the barracks where many of the Formaris troops were sleeping and slaughtered them all, cleaving through their necks, severing body parts, and leaving the entire room a gory mess. Then they snuck back out, escaping before anyone had realized what had happened. Word of this attack spread quickly, and the blame for it fell squarely on Darolim's shoulders after the other soldiers confessed the truth. Unable to sweep his behavior under the rug any longer, he was tried and found guilty of murder by the Council of Five. They sentenced him to death.
It was at this point that Ricio Nelcea heard of the barbaric methods of Bloodaxe across the Deuridian Ocean. He sent a letter to the dwarf, offering a position in what he called an administration change. Darolim, knowing that he would only face death if he stayed, managed to sneak out of his cell and onto a boat heading for Deleran's Crossing. He still had many friends among the Burimdar, and they turned a blind eye to his flight from the prison.
Once at the Windswept Plains and the Kingdom of Aervia, he found General Ricio at Nelcean Stronghold at the Untol River. They talked and got to know another over several hours behind closed doors, and, when he finally emerged, Darolim walked out with a wicked grin on his face. Some say this is when the Insurgency got its start, at this one meeting on what was an otherwise ordinary day in the Windswept Plains.
Just a few months after Darolim's arrival, with the backing of an entire army behind them, the pair made their move. In the dead of night, they crept into the Royal Castle with a handful of carefully selected soldiers. Once inside, they slaughtered every last Royal Guard, ensuring that none would be around to tell the tale, and kidnapped Queen Anya Lechner. In his chambers, they staged the room as if there were a massive struggle, with blood all over the drapes and covers and walls, and ferried her away to the Ruins of Jeshrod. Ricio, much to the dismay of Darolim, told the populace a tale of how the queen was slain by a band of orcs that he was working on tracking back to the Swamps of Urshok and bringing them to justice.
Darolim became more and more bloodthirsty the longer Ricio kept him on the backburner. The new leader of the Kingdom had heard tales of Bloodaxe, and he was purposefully keeping him on a short leash to ensure that no unfortunate... accidents occurred. This only served to make Darolim want to break free more, and eventually he did, bringing a small squadron of soldiers with him to Ebonmere, who had been speaking out against the new leadership.
It was here that the people of the Hyperion Empire learned why Darolim was called Bloodaxe. When Nelcea first took hold over the Kingdom of Aervia, the populace started to grow uneasy and words of rebellion against Ricio and his army turned from whispers to shouts. Darolim knew that he had to make an example of these people, regardless of what Ricio allowed him to do, and show them why it was necessary to stay in line. He brought a squadron of some of whom he considered his finest soldiers and marched on one of the protests in the Ebonmere town square. Once there, they slaughtered everyone they could reach, dispersing the crowd and leaving dozens dead in a matter of minutes. News of the massacre spread quickly to all corners of Xuslon and even into Akraphis. The Sovereign's Council decried the assault on the population; however, they did nothing to punish Ricio, Darolim, or any of the others involved. After, few dared speak against the new regime, and even those who did made sure it was behind closed doors with those they could trust.
Now, Darolim keeps watch over the population of the Windswept Plains as Nelcea formulates a plan for an attack on the Swamps of Urshok. He is carefully plotting the movement of supposed undead in the Silk Forest, ensuring that whatever it is does not cross too closely to their borders.
Employment
Darolim was a soldier of the Runemantle Dwarf Clan for much of his life.
Currently, he is one of Nelcea's top generals.
Accomplishments & Achievements
The Ebonmere Massacre: Darolim considers this his greatest achievement, surpassing any single battle he was in with the Burimdar. This event solidified Darolim's role in the new Kingdom, and it is what finally pushed Nelcea down the path of no return. No longer was Bloodaxe a simple frontline soldier. Now, he was a butcher.
Failures & Embarrassments
Though Ricio would hardly call it an embarrassment, one of Darolim's greatest shames is letting Queen Anya Lechner live after they kidnapped her. He believed that not slaying her would only leave the newfound kingdom open to threats if it is found out that she is alive.
