Morana

The Godess Morana - Mother of Souls

Morana (name variation Marzanna or Mara) is the Godess of the Cold, Rebirth, Death and Dream.
She is a symbol that Lumi finally ends and Tuuli starts.  Morana is called the mother of souls, because she protects the deceased from harm and she is welcoming every new soul to her land of dreams, so that everybody can find comfort in their last rest, till they are ready to move on to the next life.
Tradition: On the 60th of Lumi believers of the Godess are bringing a handmade puppet of Morana to the nearest water source (river, lake, ocean) or put it to the stake. They sing traditional Zemnian songs for a bit and then start to tear the clothes. After that they either drown or burn the doll.
The doll is normally made of Straw. On the head she has a crown made of twigs and she is dressed in traditional clothing. The forest or the place near the water source/ stake is adorned with Ribbons and Blown Eggshells.  At the End of the procession everybody is celebrating the beginning of Tuuli with a big feast.
