Time Clan Marriage Traditions and Customs

Polygamy is allowed although very rare at the current time. It is more usually practiced during and after times of great war when there's a large decrease in the male population. In true polygamists marriage, each wife's needs and wants are to be provided for equally and the children's inheritance are not determined through which mother they have. When there is an absence of a will, the surviving wives receive equal portions of the estate with the children of deceased wives receiving equal portions of their mother's shares in a similar fashion to if the wives were married sequentially. There are legal safe guards for a polygamist wife as for a monologist wife and the burden of proof for divorce is lessened.
Along with polygamy, there is also morganatic marriages which are generally frowned upon. The morganatic wife and her children have no legal claim on her husband's estate and she is legally referred to as a concubine. A man is legally bound to support his concubine and her children with him for a long as the marriage lasts. A woman may also have a morganatic husband. This marriages are most commonly performed among older widowed wealthy or noble Clan members who wish to have company in their final years but do not want to complicate inheritance for their children. A polygamist marriage may also be a morganatic marriage.
