"Be Put on the Scale"
Meaning
In Southern and Clansmen societies the phrase to "be put on the scale" and to "echo through the halls" refers to someone who is talked about by Travelers of the Fulcrum. The Fulcrum is the collection of the world's bards and newspeople. They will travel from place to place sharing the goings on of the realm and world. In Southern and Clansmen society it is seen as a popular thing to be spoken about by the travelers, the agents of the Fulcrum. These phrases are seen as a high complement. They are meant to imply that what you are doing is so important that the realm must know about it.
O great Mangtormo tales of you shall eco through the halls. No one shall die without hearing stories of your shrewd mind and sharp wit. Please know that Clan Silverline shall always stand by you!
Origin
Southern
In Southern society, it is most common for Travelers of the Fulcrum to be brought in by inns, taverns, and markets to share the news. Generally, the Travelers will set up next in the central area of these businesses, right next to the scales where the owners will weigh coins. This is generally thought how the Fulcrum first got their name. Since then to "be put on the scale" has referred to your name and story being found worthy of news by the Travelers and announced to the realm. The City of Nezun, capital of the Kingdom of Eso, has a great central market where Travelers will stand by the luxury stalls announcing the latest news. This has become one of the only areas not segregated by gender within the city. Both men and women are free to shop and hear if their names have been weighed worthy of news.Clansmen
Clansmen society goes about paying Travelers differently. As a sign of wealth, power, and charity the wealthy clans will bring Travelers to share news in front of their Clanhouse or in front of their shops. This is to show they can afford to educate the public without compensation. Due to the location of the Travelers, the sound of the recent news echoes throughout the mountain. The best place to hear this is within the Mountain Home's Trade Street. This is where all the major clans have a Clanhouse. The Travelers are all saying the same thing at once, it sounds like a chore of a few dozen people all pronouncing the news to the world. The echoes of the Trade Street can be heard throughout the whole district.History
The Fulcrum does not have a governing structure, however, the name became commonplace during the fall of humanity in 1221 he. During this time the Fulcrum was a collection of rebel agents who would spread news of the war and pro rebellion propaganda. During this time Clansmen and Southern people who were sympathetic to the rebellion saw it as a high point of pride to have themselves of a loved one announced by the Travelers. Once humanity had fallen the tradition continued. The former rebel agents kept traveling and spreading the news. Instead, now they focused on more popular news rather than just war. Since the start of the Common Era started these Travelers have been incredibly well regarded within the Southern Kingdoms and Dwarvish Isles. While prior to the Common Era "being put on the scale" was a privet point of pride, once the war was over those who had been put on the scale announced it to anyone who would hear.
