Arcanum Council

Structure

Each school of magic has a representative on the governing council. These governing members appoint themselves. This is done through an election where all remaining members of the council vote to fill any empty seats with a new member of the Arcanum Council who is from that school of magic. For example if the representative of the necromancy school dies the remaining representatives will elect a new represintive from the lesser members of the Arcanum Council who practice necromancy. Each representative on the council is generally the strongest of their school of magic. Upon taking a seat on the Council that person serves until they die or are challenged by another member for their spot.

Culture

Members of the Arcanum Council view knowledge as the highest good. Members are expected to be constantly conducting research into their field of magic. Working with other members of the same school is not required but many do this in order to further their research.
The protection of magical artifacts and tombs must be done above all else. It is worth the lives of others and yourself in order to keep magical knowledge and artifacts from those who will use them poorly.

Public Agenda

To create, gather, or otherwise have all arcane knowledge. Collecting tombs, magic items, and other forms of arcane knowledge is the highest priority of the Council.

History

The Arcanum Council was formed following the Magical Protection Act of the Glimmer Dynasty. It started out as an underground safe haven for magic users. Membership was a form of self-preservation. The Arcanum Council would take mages from highly populated cities and bring them to towers, small farms, underground bases, or any other location that would be hard to detect. While records of the council are limited it is believed that they saved upwards of three hundred mages during the Glimmer Dynasty.
In modern times the Arcanum Council serves as an exclusive group of mages detected to the research and collection of magical knowledge and artifacts.
