Elves

Elves in the World of Dungeons and Dragons   Before the Age of Humans:   In the ancient days of the world's creation, the elder gods bestowed life upon the elves, a race designed to safeguard their newly formed realm. The elves, resembling the divine beings who crafted them, possessed fair skin, light hair, elongated pointed ears, and striking green eyes. Flourishing across the world during the rule of the elder gods, the elves reveled in a time of happiness.   However, the rise of Vecna marked a turning point for the elves. With the overthrow of the elder gods, the once joyful elves retreated into solemn seclusion, concealing themselves in forest groves and shadowy corners of the world. Millennia passed in hiding, unaware of the consequences of Vecna's betrayal but fearing the worst. Around the year 30, an elf named Aerindir, along with a band of followers, sought to end their isolation and rejoin the world. While many elves rallied behind Aerindir, some chose to remain in seclusion, apprehensive of the potential corruption lingering from Vecna's influence. This faction of elves, feeling betrayed, delved deep underground, becoming what is now known as the Drow, or Dark Elves. Simultaneously, the larger group of elves discovered the emergence of a new race in what was once their domain—the race of humans.   After the Age of Humans: Elves responded differently to their newfound human counterparts. Some welcomed the opportunity to share their lands with the shorter-lived humans, assisting in the establishment of settlements and imparting worldly knowledge. Others, however, viewed humans as inferior due to their brief lifespans and limited understanding of the world. These elves distanced themselves, erecting cities far from human settlements and harboring deep distrust for outsiders. The former group earned the moniker of Wood Elves, embodying harmony with nature, while the latter became known as High Elves, maintaining an air of superiority.   Although the attitudes and mannerisms of Wood Elves and High Elves have persisted for a thousand years, some Drow have emerged from their subterranean dwellings, seeking integration into modern society.
