Ether Crystal

  • Crystals allowing for the creation of flying ships and other levitating devices
  • Found on the flying islands and geods flying mostly over Nyria
  • Dark blue in colour
  • Lightweight
  • Quite fragile crystal.
  • Can be charged with Anima. Once they do, if they are not moved, they can keep an object levitating indefinetly.
  • Apart from some extreme circumstances they cannot hold an object levitating if above the 300m from sealevel. they higher the object the more energy it requires to be charges with in order to maintain its levitation and the more unstable the crystals become.
  • It takes about 1kg of crystal charged with 1 anima to sustain an object weighing 5000kg on a height of 10m for 1 hour
  • 1kg of crystal has a volume of 10cm3
  • They were first discovered by the famous Alchemist Nabu-nazir Ubaratutu of Getunne Ria in 1470 IA
  • The crystals are commonly used to allow ships to fly in a process that contiuesly discharges and recharges a crystal as the ship is propelled in different directions.
  • Once charged, a crystal tents to want to keep its current location and it will counteract any effort to displace it from its location. Items held levitating will counter any pressure with a drag equivalent of the item being in water. and if moved slightly it will return to its original location.
  • The crystals are also used to carry heavy objects using powered platforms and in order to keep lights like chandaliers levitating.
  • In some occassions crystals are also known to hold whole buildings up in the air
  • Crystals are mined from flying islands and geods levitating. Mining the crystals in many cases causes those islands to fall from the sky and event that in many cases has tromendus impact to the ecology of creatures living on the islands and life living under the flying islands.
  • The South Nyria Company SNC has a Monopoly on the trade of crystals between Nyria and Thebia but crystals are very commonly smuggled off the shores of Nyria.

    Nice start here!   Questions:

  • "Once they do, if they are not moved, they can keep an object levitating indefinetly." My brain instantly asked "what happens if they move it?"
  • How does one recharge the crystal?
  • I'd like to know if there's any legal repercussions for destroying a floating island and what species are at risk from mining.

IF they are moved they lose their charge (dissipates) and they start falling ... quickly)   Crystals are recharged using Anima, which is willpower - which means that at some point someone charged them - people do not know why and why even the sun is in fact able to give anima out but it does this is one of the unanswered questions for the inhabitants of the world.   They should be I guess but these islands exist on the new world, which is a wild frontier, we are talking colonization of the Americas initial phase kind of thing (60 years since discovery)

I look forward to seeing these kinds of details in the article! I love that they are charged with willpower!
