Heliads Fire Festival

Festival of the Getunnieri people celebrated across Thebia and by all believers of Helianna, the All-glowing Mother celebrating the day that Lyra is closest to its sun.   The festival is attended by thousands of people across Thebia that make the pilgrimage to the Great Lighthouse, the Cathedral of Helianism dedicated to Helianna, the All-glowing Mother.   The festival doubles as a scientific exhibition that people from all over Thebia show off their latest discoveries and attend scientific symposiums.   The fire festival lasts for 5 days with its apogee taking place on the 4th day at a glorious ceremony that lasts for 6 hours during which the believers and visitors enjoy a spectacular fireworks and fire manipulation show that culminates with the "Journey" of the selected Flame Maiden to the embrace of the All-glowing mother

The Journey

The journey is a ceremony by which one of the elder Flame Maidens having finished her work on Lyra she is prepared and then walks into the bonfire around the festival square and explodes in a brilliant flash of light as her body and soul ascends into the heavens and becomes one with the mother she served all her life. It is an honour and privilege for any Flame Maiden over the age of 45 to be selected. The way that the Flame Maidens are selected is a secret kept by the Sun Council but it's speculated that factors like the service record, current age and of the maiden are taken into consideration

Very nice! I like the part about the fireworks and fire manipulation. Would that be fire dancing? Fire sculpture? or both? Both would be good! :D   And this...   The way that the Flame Maidens are selected is a secret kept by the Sun Council but it's speculated that factors like the service record, current age and of the maiden are taken into consideration   Sounds like it would be a very fascinating ritual article! :D

Excellent blend of ritual and exploration for a festival. I really enjoyed this.

Oooo, the fact that it's a festival that doubles as a scientific exhibition is really fantastic. I'd love to go see all those new discoveries, maybe listen to some talks!

This reminds me of the Universal exposition :D Great idea to combine festival, ritual sacrifice and scientific exhibition XD

That "Journey of the Flame Maiden" sounds suspicious AF to me!

Ooh, I really like this! I would not choose to be a Flame Maiden, however. I don't want to die in a bonfire! But that's just me XD

I love the dichotomy of a scientific exhibition going on while everyone's watching a strange, mythical, totally-innocent-honest fire sacrifice.

I'm really interested in learning more about the Flame Maidens. Excellent festival; the addition of the science exhibitions is also a good way to show how a culture values ingenuity.

Wow, the journey of the Flame Maiden is intense. At least it is considered a great honour, I guess, though I don't think I would want that honour for myself.   Yay for fireworks!
