The Spirits of Ashvale

The spirits of Ashvale are the sole inhabitants of the Ashvale Mountain. Beautiful women that appear dyed in thick black and yellow caked colours. The patterns on their bodies resemble the explosion patterns of the Ashvale volcano and the lave rivers created by them. It is said that if you were ever able to see a spirit the marking on their body can help you find your way back.
As the legend goes, the Spirits of Ashvale are abduct young sturdy and healthy men and take them in their secret glade deep in the mountain's heart. Almost none of them ever return from the clutches of the spirites. There are stories that from time to time some of them return years later. In those tellings, the returned mysteriously have aged backwards as "wee bairns no older than 5 turns". In addition, most of them remember nothing of their old lives having spent over 7 years with the faeries of the mountain.

In Literature

The legend has been used and iterated in multiple iterations throughout history ranging from old hags to beautiful athletic women and from the fact that the men are eaten alive used as sexual partners (one not excluding the other) or been thrown as sacrifices into the volcano.
But in all the stories written a single woman approaches a man, seduces them like a witch would and then taking them willingly deep into the mountains.

In Art

In the Ealari and Rhionni culture the theme of the beautiful women dressed in only ash black and sulphur yellow has been a theme for over 300 years of history. The legends of the Ashvale spirits has sparked the imagination of many painters and sculptors and can be seen, in many cases, as a centerpiece of great houses.
