Ensign Benicio Guerra

Benicio Guerra is the Chief Mission Operations Officer aboard the UCS Virage.
Benicio was born and raised in the crumbling, irradiated remains of Santiago, Chile. After peace was made between earth and mars, martian extremists attempted to bomb multiple tether points of earth's space elevator network. All missiles but one were intercepted; Santiago. A dirty bomb rendered the city and surrounding area uninhabitable and covered it in a thick cloud of grey smog. Despite the risks of radiation and lung damage, people moved back in to the city only a decade after detonation. Guerra was born to one of these scavenger families living in an abandoned penthouse downtown. Benicio learned how to live, and even thrive, in the most inhospitable possible place. At the age of 20 Benicio left Santiago and joined the United Commonwealth Army.
Benicio excelled in basic training and graduated as Squad Leader and Private First Class. He went on to fight on many terran colonies repelling ordel colonial reformists, being promoted to sergeant. Benicio would eventually be sent to ceven during the Silver Front Revolution and be in Guruthos when the city was taken hostage by bomb. While the rule of law and chain of command deteriorated in the city, Benicio held his troops in line. Guerra's team relied on guerilla tactics to stay alive and protect other humans and civilians trapped alongside them. Guerra's team saved a group of human and lavan soldiers from a firing squad, which Jessi and Mael were poised to be executed by.
In the final push to disable the bomb, Guerra lost his left leg and right foot to a rebel IED. The army would pay for new cybernetic legs for Guerra, but he would be permanently unfit for combat duty. Several commendations would allow Benicio to get into the United Commonwealth Astronavy Academy. He excelled there too, graduating with honors in the Mission Operators command. He would go on to serve aboard Defiant for a few years before being transferred to Virage as new Chief of Mission Operations when the UCAS absorbed the HSEI.
