The Central Island

The central island of Zersei is a very sheltered place, isolated from the outside world and even from its fellow islands.

Description

The central island is home to mainly birds, many of whom have adapted to a flightless landscape. The forests are the thickest here, undamaged by the storms from the ocean that batter its neighbors. An extinct volcano rises out of the center of the island, acting as a lookout for people who live there. The island has a tropical climate, with frequent rainstorms and low-level winds.

Inhabitants

The people of central Zersei are laidback and relaxed, preferring peaceful methods of solving things. They rarely participate in the war councils of the larger islands, and generally dislike any form of governance. The population of the central island is the smallest, leading to one large band of people instead of many conflicting tribes. They are most known for their ritual body painting and loud, wild dances. Since there is no reason not to draw attention to themselves, they hold many large festivals every year filled with noise and celebration. Some dancers wear rocks and shells around their ankles that click together when they move. The people believe dance is the best way to communicate with the divine, and worship can occur whenever and wherever.

History

The central island of Zersei was among the four islands created during the Wrath of the Gods. The people living on the land that created the islands were nearly wiped out, leaving only a few living families on each island. The people had to adapt quickly, and as such all of the Zerseic islanders are known for being flexible and quick to adopt new ideas. There have been relatively few incidents on the central island itself, and it is most known for being the last to join a Zhu Inkri whenever they are formed. The first of four times that the central island joined a Zhu Inkri was shortly after the wrath, when the people banded together to repair damaged homes and villages after the seven years' war.
