Raskovnik

A magical herb known by various names, raskovnik (or razkovniche) is a useful herb... in the right circumstances. When grown to its full strength, raskovnik can be used in potions to undo any sort of lock, including wards and magic spells of any strength. It can also be used in potions to allow the user to find treasures, and forms a key part of a potion used to detect gold.   Unfortunately, raskovnik rarely grows to its full strength, and is difficult to find even when it doesn't. Although it's not particularly rare, it makes itself hard to find. Raskovnik has a naturally evolved ability to mimic nearby plants, which it further enhanced with any magic it may absorb. Only when it has reached a sufficient level of disguise will it spend magic to develop its potency for potions. Additionally, even when a raskovnik can be found, it is impossible to tell how well-developed its magical potency is. Because of this, they are rarely harvested outside of magical hotspots, even if they're found.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Raskovnik are herbaceous plants which naturally mimic surrounding plants, even with little to no magic available to them. In this, it resembles Boquila trifoliolata, although it mimics nearby plants, not host plants. It's an annual plant, and dies off during the winter.

In its natural state it is a fairly short plant, growing up to 30 cm tall. It has distinct leaf-stalks with quatrefoiled leaves, which are triangular in shape, with the tip attached to the stem. It doesn't flower in its natural state, only when exposed to enough magic to apply mimicry, in which case its flowers resemble those of nearby plants.

Additional Information

Uses, Products & Exploitation

Raskovnik is valued for its use in potions, in which the whole plant (minus roots) is used. The form varies per potion recipe; possible forms include whole leaves, cut small, or mashed entirely.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Ravkovnik grows across a wide span of land in Eurasia, but is limited within those areas by only growing in meadows. It can be found in Central, Eastern, and Southeastern Europe, in the Baltic states, and in Central Asia.

It sounds like using Raskovnik to find a patch of Raskovnik might be useful! I can see why this plant would be highly prized.
