Dust Devil of the Parched Expanse
Among travelers of the Parched Expanse the rumors of the dust devil is well known. It is said to prey upon all living creatures heading through the region. Merchants especially fears this devil the most, as they stand to loose more than the common wayfarer. Often hired protection is necessary to ensure the safe passage though the desert, this not only costs more gold in pure protection but also rations.
Summary
The dust devil is a pure evil creature made from dust and sand of the Parched Expanse, it feeds on the life force of travelers of the region. It hunts down and envelops creatures in a dry storm which suffocates and draws humidity from the creature until death. It is said that the few dried out corpses you see from time to time when passing through the desert, are victims of the dust devil. These corpses dry out before they are rotten completely away, this can only be because of the dust devils ability to draw out humidity from creatures.
No one has ever claimed to have survived direct contact with the devil, yet people claim to have seen it from distance occupied with prey.

The stories are mostly known to the people living to the west and east of the region, since this is most common route taken through the desert. The myth is the most well known in the hamlet of Trift, as they live on the edge of the desert. Some of the villagers of Trift claim to have seen the dust devil with their own eyes, yet do not have any proof of the sighting.
