Ghost of Warsaw
About 200 thousand of people died in the Warsaw Uprising. Such an amount of dead as well as their suffering in a relatively time created a huge amalgamation of tormented spirits in Warsaw. As the result, similarly to other places of big tragedies, an amalgam ghost was created. Survivors quickly called it the Ghost of Warsaw.
Appearance
The Ghost of Warsaw appears as a tired soldier of the insurrectionary Home Army wearing a torn uniform with a red and white armband and a German helmet on the head. It uses a rifle as a walking stick.
Sightings
It can be sighted in almost every part of Warsaw. Most often it can be found in places were the biggest numbers of people died. One of such places is the Wola district, place of the Wola Massacre.
When encountered the ghost is peaceful most of the time. It is said to just wonder around an area for a few minutes and then moves on to the next place. When provoked the ghost may fly through a person causing them to feel chilly for a few seconds.
Protector of Warsaw
Some people believe that the Ghost of Warsaw acts as a protector of the city and its inhabitants. They claim that in a moment of need the ghost would imbue them with the strength of the soldiers of the Home Army. Some even say that they felt its presence during the waning years of the communist rule and the struggle that accompanied them.
Interesting... I can see this being a character who not only adds atmosphere to a scene, but also might guide the main characters from time to time.
