Women's Battle Mage Regiment
Women's Battle Mage Regiment was the first battle mage unit of the British Army in which women served as battle mages. It was formed in 1921 as the result of lobbying by Major Lucy Byrne, the first female battle mage and hero of the First World War. During the interwar period more and more women were joining the military as battle mages. Since 1930 women have been assigned to units with men. However, Major Byrne was blocking any attempts at assigning men to her unit. She believed that the regiment was symbol and should remain as a female-only unit. A compromise was reached in 1939. Major Byrne resigned as the commanding officer of the regiment and was given a position of battle magic teacher at a military academy. Meanwhile, the Women's Battle Mage Regiment was renamed to Queen's Battle Mage Regiment and men were allowed to serve in it.
