Oh, I have been a familiar for over 5.000 years, this isn't my first magical girl you know.
Garbage and all other Familiars tend to refer to us as Magical Girls, protectors of the world against all forms of corruption. Through the aid of their magic potential, we bring justice to monsters like the Overworked, ending their rampages wherever possible! Go Magica!
A Brief History Lesson
Alright, bear with me, these notes are only made through the help of Garbage telling me about the history of Magical Girls so don't expect me to get things 100% right.
Origins
So Magical girls have been around since the Medieval ages Roman ages Bronze Age Cavemen? Yeah talk about having a long history with the world. Either way, they have existed long before any record has taken note of them.
In the past, they went by many names: oracles, shamans, priestesses, witches, fortune tellers, etc. Honestly if any historical girl showed any abnormality they might've been a Magical Girl at some point. And with that, they would've fought off some form of monster.
They had rivalries with a boatload of negative things mankind has been plagued with: plague, corruption, war, etc. Each time any of these issues manifested into monstrous forms, Magical Girls would take their stand to fight back. And they have been doing it for quite some time.
All thanks to the Familiars (which also includes Garbage), they kept mankind safe for millenia.
The Decline
The main problem was that as the centuries went by, our Familiar friends couldn't keep up with the corruptive nature mankind sadly has, and slowly many drifted away from seeking out new Magical Girls.
Kinda sad to be honest.
But as few Magical Girls showed up, the belief in magic dwindled as well, leading to not only their numbers decreasing but also their powers. Especially in the last few decades, many had to resort to alternatives and limiting resources, making the few Magical Girls that still exist have to fight in fairly different ways.
And that's how we got here, with me Hiroko and Garbage trying to protect Osen City!
Becoming a Magical Girl
Becoming a Magical Girl is surprisingly simple if you know where to look. And have some luck.
Familiars like to roam around the cites of mankind disguised as regular animals such as cats, rats, even raccoons if they want to be extra sneaky. If you are pure enough for them, they might offer you a job as a Magical Girl!

What about Magical Boys?
Oh yeah they exist, but the problem is most aren't "pure" enough when they reach our preferred age demographic. Nowadays even finding "pure" Magical Girls is hard with the stuff both sexes are shown online.
Magical Women?
Funny enough, there is no real expiration date when it comes to Magical Girling it up. According to Garbage, some women up to their 60s were said to fight against the corruption of existence, which makes me only imagine a granny with a walking stick fighting the beasts we fight.
