Sosa 'of Hundred Tales' Character in Magical Curiosities | World Anvil

Sosa 'of Hundred Tales'

The Grey Beast of Fenrevel Stream sat in its lair. It waited. Any second, a Fae knight, Lord Thaeve would storm its nest, they would fight a great and epic battle and it would die. Just like it happened every century. As that was their tale. So when it heard the footsteps closing in, it prepared itself. It would attack after Lord would announce his arrival.
But this time, it was different.
A group of six people entered its den and the one who spoke first was female.
"Grey Beast, you have lived for centuries, killed again and again by the man you hate with your whole being. We come here with a deal."
The beast came out of the shadows. It wanted to know who spoke to it in such a manner. Before it stood a woman resembling a white cat, a being it saw a few times when it attacked the nearby villages. She looked strong, a fine warrior.
"Beast, what would you say about getting rid of Lord Thaeve from his own story?"
Her words were ridiculous. Destroying a story of the Fae? Only a madman or a suicidal person would think about doing that.
The beast opened its mouth, revealing rows and rows of teeth.
It smiled.
Sosa 'of Hundred Tales' is a hero of the Great Fae War, one of Tale Spinners, people brave (or crazy) enough to invade The Thicket, the land of the immortal Fae, in order to stop their conquest of other realms.

Appearance

Her white fur with golden patterns around the eyes and on the underside of her tail by itself is a quite rare sight for a catfolk based on the big cats, but in a combination with her teal mane, it creates a completely unique appearance, impossible to mistake with any other.   For a catfolk of a big cat form, she is slightly taller than average. Both her muzzle and ears are similar to those of a lion, though her tail resembles that of Maine Coon, something that appears only in lesser cat forms of catfolk.

Apparel

As she was serving the role of the Protagonist during the Great Fae War, at that time, the things she wore changed constantly as she needed to play the roles of various Fae. The first time she was met, she wore an armor painted to blend in into the landscape of The Thicket. Once the war has ended, she started wearing simple clothes. She prefers earthly colors and things more practical than aesthetic.

Personal History

Early life

Sosa's life before the Great Fae War is completely unknown. The only one who knew the truth was her and the Grim Reaper who came for her the day she passed away.
But they don't like to share. Even with their colleagues.

Great Fae War

"[...] We were in the middle of the woods, when Dan told us to stop. He looked around, his elven ears perked up and started to move a little. We were in danger.
"In the tree, 11 o'clock, a little above us."
Exactly where his words pointed my eyes, there stood a figure. I am not sure how it was possible to miss it earlier, as the person before us had almost completely white fur and teal mane, so easy to spot now..."
— From the diary of Professor Yuri
The first-ever mention of her comes from one of the diary entries created by a man known as Professor Yuri who would later become one of the members of her team. Back then, the method of killing the Fae hasn't really been discovered, so various people who wanted to fight against them simply went into The Thicket and fought them time after time until they finally fell out of exhaustion or dangers of the realm. That is where Yuri, by then accompanied by 2 other people, an elf, (Danavarael, also known as Dan, and Momo, a mousefolk fencer) met her in the middle of nowhere. She was half-feral, angry, and hungry. The three of them had to convince her that they weren't one of the Fae. They helped her leave the realm so they could eat in peace, not fearing that they will bind themselves to the realm by accident.   Sosa joined them in their fight, and once the method of killing Fae has been found, and the four of them (with two additions later - the dragoness, Hshatresenna, and human, Ian Sommers), formed a team of Tale Spinners.

After the war

After the war has ended, Sosa had to learn again how to live in society. While spending time with her team "domesticated" her in a way, there were still many things she didn't know or hasn't been taught before. While Yuri taught her how to read, Sosa still lacked the basic education, so during the day she was sent to school (something she found very embarrassing as an adult), and in her free time, Yuri helped her understand stuff not taught in school.
Soon, her life started becoming normal. She became a tailor, a thing she had a knack for with her dexterous hands. She managed to open her own store, she found love and had a family. And while once in a while someone recognized her from the stories, people spread the tales of the war, while forgetting its heroes are still here.

The end of the story

In 1810, on a sunny day not far from summer, she passed away out of old age, surrounded by her friends, most of them looking almost the same as the first day she met them. The funeral was a modest ceremony full of people who loved her.

Fighting against the Fae

The Fae are beings of tales and stories. As long as there is at least one story in which they participated, they will come back once killed, when the time comes for another telling of their story. To permanently get rid of them, someone needs to erase them from their story. The people who did that are known as Tale Spinners.   Sosa was one of them, serving the role of the Protagonist. Her task was to play the role of the new main hero of the story after the Fae was removed from it. Her title comes from the fact she and her team changed more than 100 stories of Fae, depriving more than 40 of them of their immortality.

Curse

Tail Spinners were very often victims of various curses sent by the Fae they deprived of immortality or their Court friends. As a Protagonist, Sosa had dozens of them placed on her in her lifetime. Usually, it was Dan who dealt with them.   One day, 15 years after the war has ended she visited him once more, having a new curse placed on her. The curse, known as the "Curse of Unborn", was a very severe one and if not stopped immediately, would rewind her life by 100 years, practically killing her. She was already a child when she reached Dan's shop.
Unfortunately, Dan screwed up while getting rid of it and the curse backfired on him. As an elf, being rewinded by 100 years didn't kill him, but the curse tangled itself with other curses he already had on him, leaving him permanently in a form of a kid.
