Elemental Sight

The colored eyes of the blind are seen as a gift from the Elemental Magnates.

Introduction:

Within the world of Magmoia, a rare and peculiar affliction can affect the elderly. The eyes begin to lose their usual white luster and begin to haze over in a faded color that varies by region. The color changes seem to correlate with the area the person is living in during the onset. As the disease progress, the eye will lose any familiarity that it once had and will be wholly clouded over with the varying color. Sight at this stage is lost as the eyes no longer function as they once did.

Cause:

The exact cause of the affliction is unknown; some theories do exist though.

• Some say that living near the massive concentrations of the gemstones that litter the world can emit elemental radiation that can cause the disease.

• Others believe that it is from the Elemental Magnates reaching out and touching these individuals as a sign they have been watching them.

Manifestation:

A change in the standard color of the eye as it begins to cloud over with different colors depending on the region one lives. Once the disease fully sets in, the eyes start to gain a luster like the center of a gemstone. The changes seem to manifest differently depending on the region that the afflicted is living in.

• Worheim: Purple Haze With A Black Swirl.

• Lahar: Red Haze With An Orange Swirl.

• Sklavig: Orange Haze With A White Swirl.

1. Keog: Brown Haze With A Green Swirl.

Treatment:

No treatment is known as the disease is permanent.

Prognosis:

Once the affliction sets in the vision will become more and more fogged as the colored haze takes hold in the eyes of its victims. The disease takes nearly three years for the effects finalize in the victim and for the sight to be lost entirely.
Condition is not deemed to be fatal in itself, although in some regions being blind and weak can be.

Affected Groups:

The elderly populations of any species can be afflicted with this condition — usually the feeble, weak and generally unable to care for themselves.

Advancement of the Disease:

As the condition affects the very old and feeble, not much knowledge is known of the disease as it progresses as most die within 10 or so years from gaining the disease. Some say the skin begins to change color as well later in life, but that theory has not been confirmed.

Cultural Reception:

Most elderly in the realm of Magmoia are seen as "Blessed" when diagnosed with the Elemental Sight. In most realms, elderly members of the community who are plagued with Elemental Sight are revered and looked after. Some even believe that being afflicted with this condition is seen as a blessing from the Elemental Magnates.
Some realms, unfortunately, do not carry that same standard and believe the Elemental Sight to be a curse or a disease. Many who are afflicted are removed from the kingdom by either sacrifice or banishment.
