Dondu
The Dondu is an armadillo-like creature that roams the mountains of Magvel, largely eating minerals for their sustenance with the exception of the Scarlet Dondu from the Red Clam Archipelago, which eats tree roots. Dondu are split into four major subspecies across the continents, being the Scarlet, Surdur, Loci, and the Profundus Dondu
Basic Information
Anatomy
Dondu are covered in thick shells harder than stone, along with spiked mineral clusters sprouting from their back. They also possess a long plated tail with a morningstar like end to it. The color of the minerals vary by where the Dondu are from.
Genetics and Reproduction
Dondu reproduce through live birth, with females giving birth to litters of up to four young at a time. The young are born with soft, pliable shells that harden over time as they grow and mature.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Most Dondu primarily feeed on mineral cluster beneath the surface, with the exception of the Scarlet Dondu, which relies more on tree roots than it does on minerals.
Biological Cycle
As years go by Dondu shed their thick armor plates and expose the fresh scales underneath, the same thing happens with the crystals jutting from its back.
Behaviour
Most Dondu are rather reclusive, enjoying their own company first and foremost and not being particularly welcoming of other species. Loci Dondu however don't usually care about the presence of other creatures and will continue on their business regardless of others.

Scarlet Dondu are known by the bright red crystals sprouting from their back.
Surdur Dondu are known for being the largest of the Dondu species, as well as their abundance on and around Mount Surdur.
Loci Dondu are known for being the least afraid of contact with sentient species.
Profundus Dondu are known for dwelling deep below the surface and being highly resistant to heat.
