Chapter 2 ~ We Can Remember It for You Wholesale

"Didn't you hear me? It takes a person days to learn a spell... We will reach Le' Portano City in a day and a half at most." The birdwoman said.   "Then do you know any magic that can bust us out of here?" Cybil asked.   "No... I've never had the coin to take lessons." She replied.   "Does anyone else know any magic other than her?" Cybil asked pointing at Belldandy.   "I do, but it's just some Seerer magic and a minor healing spell." The Fairy told her.   "Told you... there is not much we can do." Nana said.   Cybil sighed and massaged her temples. There had to be something they could do to escape. She called up her Dominion Sheet and looked over it again. Woodcutting, swimming, and running were all useless in this cage. She silently cursed whoever brought her here and placed her in a forest in the middle of nowhere. Why couldn't she have been summoned into a city, in a place that didn't have slavery? Scrolling down she saw the message...
YOU HAVE ONE UNCHOSEN "GIFTED BOON"
Her eyes lit up.   "I-I have some Boons that effect Magic Affinity or something... Will that help me learn stuff quicker?" She asked.   The group looked at her with wide eyes.   "You have a Boon?" They all nearly asked at once.   "Not so loud!..." Cybil said trying to quite them.   "Oh, you don't have to worry about people listing to us. That cloth they threw over the cage had concealment enchantments." Nana told her.   "Oh... Wait, wouldn't they want to hear us?" Cybil asked.   "Who wants to hear slaves complain?" She answered.   "Oh... Well... I don't have a Boon yet, but I can choose one! I have no idea which one is the best though." Cybil said.   "Tell usss them." The Lizardwoman said.   Cybil nodded and slowly read each one out to the group.

Iron Stomach

This Boon blesses its receiver with the ability to not contract food poisoning from ill-prepared sources. At higher levels, this will protect you from parasites and actual poisons.
"I guess one more bite won't hurt!"
"Not sure how that can help us." Nana said.   "Yeah, I guess we can rule that one out. I always sort of thought that was the weakest sounding one." Cybil told them as she moved on to the next prompt.

Quick Learner

This Boon blesses its receiver with an extra +1 to Intelligence [INT] stat upon every Level Up.
"You will be top of your class with this Boon!"
"Wow, a lot of Mages and Scholars would murder for a boon like that." Nana said.   "Is it that good?" Cybil asked a little confused.   "Yeah, I guess you don't know this but when a person Levels, they get a permanent increase to their stats. This would mean that every time they Level Up, they are guaranteed to have their Intelligence boosted." Nana explained.   "What determines the stats that are boosted?" Cybil asked.   "Dominion does." The birdwoman said.   "That... That doesn't help me much..." Cybil said looking back at the cold feathered woman.   The woman just scoffed and leaned her head back and closed her eyes.   "Well... She's not wrong. Dominion is always watching, always judging. If it thinks that you used a specific stat more then others, it will award the boost to that stat. Cast a lot of magic and your Intelligence and Magic Attack will go up. Get hit by magic and your Magic Defence take the boost instead. Stats can also go up even when you don't level, by the way. Exercising and building muscle will increase naturally increase your Attack, Defence, Dexterity, Agility, and Vitality... Sometimes even your Charisma." Nana explained.   "I see... So why is Intelligence so important to Mages and Scholars?" Cybil asked.   "Intelligence is linked to a person's Max MP. The higher the stat, the more spells they can cast before needing to rest or use an item. Some higher level spells and equipment might also need a minimum amount of Intelligence to use. If your profession has anything to do with Magic, then a high Intelligence stat will be a huge goal." She told her.   "Too bad I can't sell these, haha." Cybil said.   "You would be set for life!" Belldandy exclaimed.   "Yeah, but sadly this Boon doesn't help us right now." Nana said.   Cybil sighed and then began reading the next prompt.

Entertainer

This Boon blesses its receiver with the ability to mesmerize other with song and dance! Dance and Singing Skills and Magics are leveled at double the rate of a normal person of your race.
"Tips are welcome!"
Added Attribute to all Dance and Singing Skills and Magic: Mesmer
"I want that!" Belldandy said out, leaning towards Cybil.   "Y-You do, huh?" Cybil asked looking over at the slender woman.   "Yes, Very much... It's what I do after all." She said with a smile.   "What? Dance and sing?" Cybil asked.   "Mmhmmm! I dance and sing for whomever has the coin! At the party or in the streets, at a bar or between the sheets... Hmmhmm. Just kidding about that last part." She said as she leaned her head back and bumped it against a metal bar with a small thud. "Oww.. hmmhmm." She giggled.   "... Sombra Root ain't no joke is it?" Cybil asked Nana.   "It's... the side effects are strong." She said.   "Yeah, that's pretty clear... So, anyway... Is this Boon any good?" She asked.   "Well, I would say not as much as the last one. This one seems very specific. It could be useful if your Dancing or Singing Skill is high... But..." She said.   "I don't even have those." Cybil said.   "Then this one is useless to use right now." She said back.   "Oh... By the way, whats Mesmer?" Cybil asked.   "Uhh, I'm not precisely sure. I'm not fully schooled on all the different Status Effects, I know the more common ones like 'Bleeding' and 'Poisoned' but if I had to guess, It's probably a bit like 'Charmed'?" She said.   "And what is that? " Cybil asked.   " 'Charmed' is somewhat like the 'Slavery' Enchantment that has been placed on all of us. Basically, other people can make us do things that we don't want to do." She said.   "That iiis correct! 'Charmed' can only be cassst on the opposite sssex. They also will not realize that they are under the effect. 'Slavery' wiiill work on anyone, but iiit only touches the body, not the miiind." The Lizardwoman said to them.   "So... Your not just slaves cause they managed to get you in a cage? It's actually enforced by magic?" Cybil asked.   "Yesss. 'Slavery' must be cassst once every two weeksss on a person or else iiit will wear off. But, there are other waysss to cast 'Slavery' that are more... permanent." The lizard woman said.   "L-Like?" Cybil asked.   The lizard woman looked over to Belldandy, her eyes glancing at the bloodstains on the wooden floor around her.   "Oh..." Cybil said as it dawned on her that it wasn't just sealing magic that was carved into her skin.   "You know a lot about this. Do you know what 'Mesmer' is... Uhhh?" She said realizing she did not know the scaled woman's name.   "K'Tara, my name iiis K'Tara. And no, I do not. Ssshe probably does, as she isss a Dancer." She said.   Cybil, Nana, and K'Tara all looked to Belldandy. Belldandy looked back at them with a blank expression on her face.   "Huh?"   "Don't 'Huh' us! Do you know what 'Mesmer' is?" Nana asked.   "Oh! Yeah!..." She said with a smile.   All three woman stared at her waiting for her to continue.   "What is it then?!" Nana asked with more force.   "Oh! Uhhh... It's a trance. It puts people in a trance." She told them.   "What kind of a trance?" Cybil asked.   "The kind where all you think about is a single thing... you ignore everything else." Belldandy clarified.   "Hmmm, that could help us escape... But I don't dance or sing so I guess its a moot point." Cybil said.   "What is the next one?" Nana asked.   Cybil nodded and looked back to her sheet.

Blade Artist

This Boon blesses its receiver with a 100% affinity with Small Blades, One-Handed Swords, and Two-Handed Swords! With a 100% affinity, you will level in Small Blades, One-Handed Swords, and Two-Handed Swords at 150% the rate of a normal person of your race.
"You will be one sharp cookie with this Boon!"
"Great Gods!" Nana exclaimed.   "Even I can tell that sounds good." Cybil said.   "100 affinity? Are you sure it says that?" Nana asked.   "Yeah, what does affinity do?" Cybil asked.   "It boosts experience gained for skills, magic, and weapons. And once you have 25% affinity, you can then learn magic and skills via Transference." Nana said.   "What is that?" Cybil asked.   "It means you can learn things very quickly. What would have taken days can be learned in seconds." The fairy chimed in from her cage.   "What?! That sounds awesome! Should I take this then?" Cybil asked.   "... Uhhh... Damn..." Nana said, feeling conflicted.   "What?" Cybil asked.   "Don't get me wrong, Its good.... Real good... I am actually feeling deep jealousy towards you right now... But are there any other Boons you can choose?" Nana asked.   "Yeah, one more." Cybil answered and then began to read.

Dark Sorceress

This Boon blesses its receiver with a 50% affinity with all Dark aligned Magics! With a 50% affinity, you will level all Dark Magic at 125% the rate of a normal person of your race. With this Boon, you will be able to learn all Dark aligned Magic even without other Deity's blessings.
"This... Is my BOOM Stave!"
"Is that an Army of Darkness reference?" Cybil asked herself.   "You should choose that!" Belldandy said.   "Why this one? Its only 50% affinity." Cybil asked.   "Enough for Transference and I know Dark magic!" She said in a sing-song voice.   "She's right, what we need now is a way to escape. Even if 'Blade Artist' is more versatile and effective, it's not going to help us much at the moment." Nana said.   "Okay... Are we sure than? Dark Sorceress?" Cybil asked as her finger hovered over her screen.   "Dark Sorceress!" Belldandy shouted.   "Dark Sorceress." Nana agreed.   "Yesss, Dark Sorceress." K'Tara said.   "Dark Sorceress!" The Fary said enthusiastically.   "........... Dark Sorceress" The Birdwoman said with a sigh.   "Okay then! And here we go!" Cybil said as she selected and a chime rang in her ears.

"Whoa, whoa, whoa!" Cybil said out loud.   "What is it?" Nana asked.   "I just leveled up... twice! It just gave me experience for reaching 50% affinity." She said.   "Oh! That's good! You got it for reaching a 'Milestone'. I had forgotten to tell you that might happen." Nana said smiling.   "What? What's a 'Milestone'?" Cybil asked.   "What it sounds like. You will receive bonus experience whenever you reach a certain level in skills or magic. I didn't know that affinity gave rewards as well. How much did you get?" She asked.   "5000." Cybil said.   "That seems... low... perhaps because you are at a lower level it gave you less for hitting 50%?" Nana suggested.   "Ah... I also got 4 stat points that I can distribute." Cybil said.   "What?" Nana asked raising an eyebrow.   "It said... ahem... 'As a Champion, you have been awarded 4 extra stat points to freely distribute.' " Cybil said trying to mimic the voice that read her prompt to her.   "I... Never heard of Champions getting extra stat points... And it's letting you choose where to put them?" Nana asked.   "Yeah, What should I do with them?" She asked.   "Umm, If we are going to try and escape, then Agility would be a good choice." The fairy said.   "Agility? Is that like my speed?" Cybil asked.   "Yes, it also helps with other things but speed is the most obvious. I would put at least 2 points in there if not all of them." Nana said.   "Okay, Thanks... Uhh, Sorry what is your name?" Cybil asked the fairy.   "Naida, Naida Lightbloom." She said.   "It's nice to meet you, Nadia." Cybil said with a smile, Nadia smiling back.   She then looked back at her screen.

For acknowledging your ignorance on an important subject then seeking and taking the advice from one more knowledgeable than yourself, you have been awarded the temporary Boon Wise Fool!
+1 to WIS for the next 52 hours.
"Ahh! I... My Dark magic leveled twice and it gave me a temporary Boon! I got a +1 to my Wisdom for the next 52 hours! That's an odd timeframe... Why 52? Why not 48?" She asked.   "Why would it be 48? 52 hours is two days." The bird woman asked looking at Cybil weirdly.   "What?... So a day is 26 hours here?" She asked.   "Yeah?" She said back.   "Huh... okay... going to have to get used to that. You guys don't seem too impressed that I got another Boon..." Cybil said.   "Haha, a temporary Boon is actually pretty common. I've gotten quite a few myself. A permanent Boon is rare. You usually have to complete a difficult quest to be awarded one. They are literally gifts from the Gods for heroic deeds." Nana said.   "Oh, well... Okay then." Cybil said, just a tad disappointed.   "Anyway, what kind of magic do you know Belldandy?" Cybil asked the white-haired woman.   "Should I tell you them all?" She asked.   "Uhh, just the Dark Magic ones." Cybil said.   "Okay! I have Lullaby, that's Dark and Life. Vulcan Palm, Dark and Fire. Stygian Mind Fog, just Dark." She said smiling.   "Uhh... Can I still learn the ones that have other types of magic with Transference?" Cybil asked.   "Yes! It will take longer but still far faster then it would be to learn it otherwise." Nana told her.   "Okay then... Let's start with the Stygian one first since its just Dark magic... So, Uhh, how do we do this?" Cybil asked.   "Hold my hands and place your forehead on mine!" Belldandy said.   "Uhh... Okay." Cybil said and crawled over to her.   She reached up to Belldandy's hands that were shackled to the roof of the cage and interlocked her fingers with hers. She leaned forward and touched her forehead. She waited for a bit and nervously looked into Belldandy's blue eyes. She watched as Belldandy closed her eyes and after a few seconds, she did the same.
You have received the offer to be taught the magic Stygian Mind Fog.
This is a spell of Dark
With a Dark affinity of 50%, you may learn this via Transferance.
Would you like to learn Stygian Mind Fog? Y / N
"Yes." Cybil said under her breath.   At first, she sensed nothing. All she felt was the warmth of Belldandy's hands. Then she could feel her heartbeat, weak at first but slowly getting stronger. Her own heart began beating in rhythm.   "Dandelion! It's time for your lesson!" A man called out.   Cybil opened her eyes and looked out from under a table, she giggled and then covered her mouth so she wouldn't be found as she watched the older man.   "Hmmm... I wonder where she could be?" The man called out as he slowly moved around the room.   "Are you in here?" He asked as he opened a door to a storage room.   "No? Hmmm..." He said as he turned and walked past the table.   "In here?" He asked as he took off the lid of a wicker basket.   "Hmmm... I wonder where she could be?" He said as he walked behind her.   Cybil grinned like a fool but tried to stay as silent as she could. She then suddenly felt herself being gently grabbed from behind and pulled out from under the table.   "Found you! HAHA!" The man said with a hearty laugh as he held her high up and spun her around.   Cybil began laughing and giggling as this man she didn't know smiled so warmly at her.   She blinked, looking down at her hands she held a wooden stick it had been hand carved into a wand-like shape and had a picture of a flower carved in it.   "Okay... Remember, think of the scariest thing you can." The man said who was no standing some ways away from her.   It was around dusk, the fading light of the sun was painting the sky a mixture of pink and blue. Cybil concentrated and pointed the stick at the man. She began thinking of a barking dog with large, spider-like eyes. The image in her mind began to scare her.   "That's good... Now imagine that thing turning and coming towards me." The man said.   Cybil nodded and imagined the monster first turning its head to regard the man, then urged it to walk towards him.   "Got it? Okay, Now repeat after me. 'In the name of the king of nightmares, I beseech thee! Turn that which is real to me, real to them! Stygian Mind Fog!' " The man said.   Cybil began to repeat the words only to have the dog dissipate as the mispronounced the word 'beseech'. Cybil's eyes began to water. The man laughed a bit and walked over to her and knelt down. He wiped the tears away from her eyes and smiled at her.   Cybil blinked and it was now in the early morning hours, she could smell the unmistakable aroma of bacon and eggs in the air. But she was feeling full and was outside. The man was standing the same distance away.   "You can do it! You remember the words right?" He asked.   Cybil nodded and repeated the words. She said it right! She smiled and then looked confused when nothing happened.   "Haha! You got to picture the scary thing first!" The man said.   Cybil pouted and began to think of a giant spider with a dog face. She concentrated on it running towards the man and repeated the words as she pointed her wand. The man widened his eyes and feel to the ground as the Spider plowed into him. He began to struggle with the imaginary creature as it attempted to lick his face.   "What? This thing is so goofy! HAHA!" He laughed as the illusion wore off.   "You did it though! I'm so proud of you!" The man said as he picked himself up off the ground and made his way back over to Cybil.   He picked her up and spun her again. Cybil was filled with such happiness and warmth. She opened her eyes again, the man was standing further away from her now. He held up a sheathed sword and pointed it at her.   "Okay! Now cast it as I charge at you and move around!" The man said as he counted to 3 and began to run towards her.   Cybil nervously pointed her wand and began to think of a dog yet again. She began to chant the words of power that made the spell real and the dog began running to met the man.   "You have to make it scarier than that!" He said as he reached it and swung his sword at it.   The dog burst open with a loud pop, hundreds of spiders rained down on the man. The man dropped his sword from surprise and fell to the ground and rolled as the illusion dissipated around him. He blinked and sat up and looked over at Cybil.   "Haha! That was clever!" He said as he got up and walked towards her.   "I think you got the hang of it. Remember, If anyone ever tries to hurt you, you make them pee their pants in fear okay?" He asked as he knelt down and ran his hand through Cybil's hair.   Cybil laughed and nodded, then with a gasp she opened her eyes and fell backward. Her fingers tugged on Belldandy's hands a little before they were pulled free. She blinked and rubbed her eyes and looked around.   "W-What the hell was that? Who was that?!" She asked.   "Aha, So it worked? That's good!" Belldandy said happily.   "What? What just happened?!" She asked again.   "Calm down. I guess what I heard about Transference is true then?" Nana asked.   "What?" Cybil asked confused, still looking around for the man.   "When you use Transference, you are basically living through the person's own memories of learning whatever Skill or Magic they are teaching you." Nana told her.   "So... That was all Belldandy's memory? That man?" She asked.   "My Father. He taught me that spell." She said to her with a smile.   "Oh, I see... He was... God, It's hard to describe. It was a warm memory." She said smiling.   "He was a good man, a loving father." She said smiling, though the small sadness in her eyes did not go without notice.   "Yeah... So... Did it work?... Status!" Cybil said and was met with a ringing in her ears.

That memory was like a few minutes, I thought you guys said it would only be a few seconds." She said.   "You only had your eyes closed for about 5 seconds." Nana told her.   "What? No way, I played hide and seek with dad and eveyth- I mean, with Belldandy's father..." Cybil said somewhat embarrassed.   "Haha, You saw that one huh?" Belldandy giggled.   "Anyway, I guess we should get back to learning the other spells. Let's try that Vulcan hand one." Cybil said as she got back up off her butt and reached up to hold Belldandy's hands.   "Okay, Heh, You seem to be enjoying this." Belldandy said as Cybil grasped her hands.   "Yeah, I'm learning magic, It's kind of exciting." She said as she placed her forehead on Belldandy's.   "Alright then..." Belldandy said and closed her eyes.   Cybil took a deep breath and closed her eyes as well.

"Yes." Cybil said to herself.   She took another deep breath as she could feel her heartbeat slow to match Belldandy's. The scent of earth and dry leaves filled her nose.   "Okay, now that you have your pit set up. You need to light it. What is the best way?" Her Father asked her.   Cybil could feel herself say something, but the mouth movements were foreign to her. She made no sound, but the look on her fathers face told her that he heard her loud and clear.   "That's right, flint is a good one, or if you don't have that a hand drill will do. But let's say you have been walking all day and the night has crept up on you fast. Its cold and you can hear rustling in the bushes. you need to light this fire fast. In that case, magic is the best bet." He said.   Her Father moved around the pit so that he could sit beside her. He held out his hand upturned, Cybil looked down at her own hand. It was a little bigger than before but was still dwarfed by her Fathers.   "Okay, imagine a fire in the palm of your hand." He said.   Cybil looked at her hand and began to think of a small flame dancing in the middle of her palm. She looked back up to her Father.   "Now imagine that fire sink down into your hand. Its warmth spreading out, coming up through your palm." Her Fater told her.   Cybil looked down at her hand and watched as it disappeared under her skin.   "Now repeat after me. 'Flame eternally burning within my flesh, Erupt! Vulcan Palm!' " He said as the palm of his hand ignited, gouts of flame arced from his skin as if it were the surface of the sun itself.   Cybil watched in amazement as flames licked at the cool air. Then they were gone. She blinked and turned to her own hand. She could feel herself say the words, but nothing seemed to happen. Again. Nothing. Again. Nothing. Again with great concentration. Nothing.   "Its okay, Just practice a bit. I'll go prepare supper." He said as he stood up and walked in the small cabin behind them.   Cybil looked at her hand. She spoke the words of power. Nothing. Again. Nothing. Again. Nothing. Again. Nothing. She blinked, The sun was low and the shadows grew long. She felt tired as she looked at her hand and down at the tent of sticks and leaves. She spoke the words again, and she could feel a small amount of warmth. She blinked as it was now dark. The only light there was emanated from the windows of the cabin behind her.   Again, speaking the words she could feel a warmth building hotter. Then it faded. She sighed and pouted. She blinked and now the stars where out as the clouds had cleared, twin moons hung high in the sky. She stared at her hand but then froze as she heard something. He head snapped upwards to the bushes to her left. She called out for her Father but could not hear him coming. Again the bushes shook. She could not see what it was, she dared not make a run to the cabin and turn her back to whatever beast it could be. She instead focused on her hand.   She imagined a bright flame, bright enough to light the night sky in her hand. She watched as it sank down, radiation its light and heat upwards. She then shouted the words. A bright flash raised from her palm as fire danced off of it. Without thinking she reached down and placed her hand on the bundle of sticks. The dry wood soaked up the heat and burst into flames. Light flooded around her as she stood up and pointed the palm of her hand at the bush just as her Father stepped out, holding two bowls of what smelled like Malkin Stew.   "I see you got it!" Her Father said.   Cybil looked at her Father with wide eyes and began complaining at him. While she could not hear her own words she could tell it was because of how he had scared her. She watched her Father chuckle as he handed her a bowl and sat down beside her.   "Sometimes fear can be the best teacher." He said as they looked at the fire.   Cybil opened her eyes and took a gasp of air. She blinked a bit and looked around. It was dark, really dark. The wagon was moving and rocking back and forth. She felt confused.   "Oh, are you done?" Nana asked.   "Huh? What's going on? Why is it so dark?" Cybil asked as she could hear Belldandy yawn beside her.   "It's night now... You've been locked together with Belldandy for about... I don't know... 6 or 7 hours." She told her.   "What? It didn't seem like that long at all..." Cybil said.   "I'm tired... Goodnight." Belldandy said and closed her eyes as she leaned her head back.   Cybil watched as she fell asleep almost instantly. She looked around and could see the other were asleep as well.   "I stayed up to wait for you guys to finish." Nana told her.   "Oh... Wait. How far away are we from the city now?" She asked worried that the transference had taken too long.   "We are still probably a day out." She said.   "Oh, Good... So..." Cybil said wondering what to do now.   "We should get some sleep. In the morning we can go over a plan of escape." Nana said.   "O-Okay... Then, I guess goodnight." Cybil said to her.   "Night." Nana said back as she laid herself down and closed her eyes.   Cybil laid down as well and opened her Dominion Sheet.
