Reclamation War
A War of Control
Lay of Claim
The title of the Reclemation War is somewhat misleading and disingenuous to the historical events that transpired. The gods had long ignored Malgrave and turned a blind eye to the people suffering from the constant Planar Flux. This only changed when the demons of the Abyss and the nine princess of Hell took notice of the godless, lawless plane and sought to corrupt the growing population of mortal inhabitants. Realizing there were people in need, some of the benevolent gods sent their servants to protect these mortals, while the more corrupt began aiding the forces of darkness. Eventually all gods were pulled in, fighting for claim over the world. The forces of the gods fought each other, the devils and demons, and even the mortals that refused to accept help from those that abandoned them for so long. While the fiends and celestials were on nearly even terms with each other, the mortals suffered the most, standing against them both as best they could. They had claimed the plane and were not about to give it up.A Lasting Effect
The war only came to an end when the gods realized that they were about to destroy everything, but the aftershocks left a lasting impression on the world. While some, such as the Duskmen, were directly aided by the gods, others like the dragonborn of Malgrave denounced the gods entirely, feeling abandoned and betrayed. Much of Malgrave is wholly unreligious as a result of the Reclamation War, though the reasons have been fairly lost as there are no records and few mortals survived the conflict. Those that are religious can often be seen as zealots as they take their faith to an extreme, such as the Brides of St. Cuthbert. There is no conflict between the two sides, but very few find a good balance between being dismissive of religion or completely devoted.
