Random Ramblings of Renegades, Religionists, Rulers, and Rat Catchers

The 'Ramblings' as it is commonly known, is a collection of insightful sayings, pithy comments about life, and inspirational snippets. It has been available, in ongoing editions, for generations, with new content added and older or less impactful material dropping out. In most editions of recent years it consists of about 1000 different entries, in no particular order. The individual entries are known as 'Rambles'. The authors of the individual Rambles are not listed, each entry is anonymous. The book is unpaged, but each Ramble is numbered.
Other producers of printed materials have made pocket-sized, themed versions of the 'Ramblings' called 'Little Rambles' that those who can afford them enjoy carrying on travels or while visiting friends and family. Sometimes games are created from the sayings, challenges to see who can find the two most opposite rambles, or who can combine two or more into a grand pronouncement. Quick games take place from the 'Little Rambles' and more involved ones from the 'Rambles' or 'Big Rambles' as it is also known. Attempts are made to guess who first said a particular ramble as well.
Some have even claimed to find mystic meaning in the book, both the complete works and the smaller versions. They analyse both what the Rambles say, and the order and wording that is used. While claims have been made of some discovery or another within its pages, most do not consider this to be of any significance. The 'Rambles' are just a part of the everyday life of many of the citizens.
This thinking is enhanced because no one really knows who produces the book. The booksellers find newer editions delivered to their shops, or additional copies of existing editions provided when they run low, but no evidence has ever surfaced as to the provider. This certainly creates a mystery, and the result is the Ramblings have at times taken on a near mystical significance. It is likely one of the goals of whoever it is that makes and distributes this volume.
Material found in the 'Rambles' is used in many applications: as a primer for children to learn to read and write, introductory entries in the chapters or prefaces of other books, wisdom shared with the foolish, and as punishment or aid in overcoming insomnia.

Purpose

If there is more of a purpose to the 'Rambles' than mere insight and wisdom, that is currently unknown.

Historical Details

Background

The 'Rambles' has been in existence for generations. When the first edition was created is not known and cannot be determined by tracking the dates or edition information in later releases as newer editions do not come out on any sort of schedule.

Public Reaction

The most common reaction from the public is enjoyment. It causes laughter, thinking, and imagery and is an accepted part of normal life, enjoyed, but little thought of beyond that.
