Ixamimesis

Ixamimesis - from the Iuxat 'ixa' for spirit - is a religious and cultural phenomenon among Rostran Esotericists. Ixamimesis refers to a situation where a person encounters some sort of content from a moment in the deep past - perhaps an entry in an ancestor's journal, a snippet from a biographical or historical film, or a notable religious sermon - that gives that person a sudden and profound sense of familiarity or sympathy.   This phenomenon is philosophically similar to the concept of parallel walks, except that the connection between two people forged in ixamimesis spans temporal, rather than spatial, dimensions. Becoming a Reforged as a member of the Forgist faith is a more approximate experience to that of undergoing ixamimesis.

Participants

For an Esotericist, a moment of ixamimesis is an occasion to reflect on the cyclic nature of the cosmos; the 'object' of ixamimesis might, as far as the faithful is concerned, actually represent a version of the 'subject' from a previous cycle. The Esotericist is encouraged to meditate the circumstances regarding an instance of ixamimesis thuroughly and, if the object of the ixamimesis has positive qualities, consider attempting to adopt or strive towards those qualities themselves. This meditative practice may include the creation of special ritual sigils in an attempt to channel the spirit of the object. A properly executed ritual sigil is said to help the practitioner join the spiritual 'stream' of his or her previous selves reaching back through, and ahead past, The Curved Time.
