Mattock

In the Manifold Sky setting, the term 'mattock' is understood to mean a long-hafted digging tool where the striking head features an axe blade on one side and an adze blade on the other. Mattocks are commonly used as farming and excavation tools throughout the Manifold and, being ancient in origin, can be made from a variety of materials.

Significance

In addition to its more common uses, the mattock is the entrenching tool of choice for Free Faces League military forces, where it sometimes finds additional use as an improvised melee weapon.
