Reliquary of the Great Warlord
When Warlord Burla'asin I of the Great Flock perished at the climax of the Rostran-Ovinex War - spelling the beginning of the end for the Native Ovinex golden age - his remains were recovered at great cost by his kinsmen in the futile hope that his relics would help maintain the stability of the Great Flock until his heir came of age. The warlord's heart, along with some of his blood, wool, and fragments of his signature ba'amba, were stored in a sealed vessel of petrified hardwood and suspended from a golden chain from a hook above Burla'asin II's throne like a censer - a grim totem of the young warlord's familial claim. Lost in the cultural upheavals that followed the death of Burla the Lame, this vessel, known as the Reliquary of the Great Warlord, is believed to lie still in the abandoned crypt of the last successor, Burla the Weak, somewhere in the jungles of the largest island in what are now the Ovinex Island Tribes.
Significance
The Relicquary of the Great Warlord is laden with heavy cultural and historical significance for the Native Ovinex people. There are concerns among Civil Ovinex and outside observers alike that, should the Reliquary every be discovered and fall into the wrong hands, it could be used by certain extreme elements in Native Ovinex society as a focal point for a violent nationalism that would destabilize the centuries-long peace that has existed between the Ovinex Island Tribes and the Rostran Archipelago Confederacy. At the same time, there is also an understanding among the more erudite of ovinex society that such violent impulses belie a forgetfulness of the circumstances under which the Reliquary was created: everyone remembers the glory days of ovinex expansionism, but few stop to consider the bloody inter-tribal warfare and political repression, unparalleled in the long history of the ovinex, that enabled it.
