Rostran Warm Weather Ration
The Rostran warm weather ration (also known as a Rostran Archipelago Confederacy Marine Forces Naval Ration, Type I - or simply 'N-Ration') - is an inexpensive staple foodstuff among members of the Rostran armed forces, especially in the Rostran Archipelago Confederacy Marine Forces.
Mechanics & Inner Workings
An N-ration come in a what is essentially an oversized sardine can, the elongated pull tab of which can be removed to create an eating utensil. Each component is further separated within the can into wax paper packets, a fact which does little to prevent the contents from smelling bad once the seal on the can is broken. The can itself becomes a convenient cooking pan and mess tin. N-rations may be eaten as-is or combined with local edible plants and water to make seafood stew; seawater, crushed hot peppers, and edible seaweed are most preferred additions by Rostran soldiers. In extreme environments (such as the Red Velvet Desert the rations are left unheated to prevent any precious water from evaporating.
Significance
Ironically for a ration designed for consumption by a species with excellent senses, rumors persist among other sentient species that the 'N' actually stands for 'nausea.' While there is nothing objectionable about what comes in an N-ration - namely, a packet of fish in an astringent, lemon-based sauce, a water purification tablet, and a few sheets of nutrient-fortified hard tack - the strong smell that comes out of the fish pack when it is opened has been known to clear Voxelian and Coalition mess tents alike. Rostrans and Civil Ovinex appear to be immune to the stench (perhaps through long exposure), though Native Ovinex generally find the lemon flavor rather unpleasant.

What a neat, short article. I loved the detail of the utility of the whole package like how the pull tab can be used as a utensil. I'm not a fan of fish myself and the description made me shudder, hehe.
