The Drunken Mare

Raucous laughter spills from the open windows and into the streets. The air smells heavy of fish, tobacco smoke, and alcohol. A small, two-story wooden building stands on the corner of the street near the docks. On the bottom of the balcony is a sign with a horse on it. Next to the horse it reads, “The Drunken Mare.” A small sign next the entrance reads, “Proprietors of the Drunken Mare are not responsible for any bodily harm incurred on this premise. Enter at your own risk.” Directly under this sign, someone has carved into the wood, rather drunkenly, “If’n ur scurred, go fil ur leyg at T’e More.”   A port dive if ever there was one, the Drunken Mare is home to sailors, fishers, dock workers, and mercenaries. It is a rough and rowdy place, but it’s also got the cheapest rooms and the hardest liquor. Due to the clientele, it’s also a great place to get information or find people for hire.   While the Drunken Mare is actually owned by Dougan Windflap, he’s never there. Instead, Vix Keelin runs the place for Dougan. Vix is a red Tiefling from the Wildlands. He keeps his jet-black hair slicked back between his great curved horns. He chews on the end of a half-smoked cigar as he talks, the end just dancing around in front of his face. No one is sure how long Vix and Dougan have known each other, but they go back along ways. Vix has always had a head for business and isn’t shy about telling people that he’d sell his mother for a good a deal, so Dougan probably figures he’ll get a better return on investment with Vix running the place. Can’t say he isn’t right, the Drunken Mare has seen an increase in business the last few years, ever since Vix took over.
