The Obscured Pursuit

Use

The Obscured Pursuit is the Shadow King’s personal royal transport, on which the King spends 9 months of the year traveling the riverways between all the kingdoms in his empire. It is seen as the biggest honor for small river towns to have the King dock at your port, but for larger cities and kingdom capitals, the King’s visit is something to obsessively prepare for all year. The King uses these visits to control the kingdoms, and having the King run the country for your capital for a couple of weeks could either bring one great political favor or be disastrous for any ambitions. The Shadow King is notable for keeping a travel schedule that ruffles the locals’ feathers. Where his father had a much stricter and routine schedule (a travel schedule that led to widespread corruption, as many things could be easily hidden under the Black King’s notice), The Shadow King preferred to keep his schedule loose, staying at capitals much shorter than those local governments would have liked (quelling their drive to power) and visiting as many smaller towns as was possible in a schedule that was unpredictable at best.

Construction

With the coronation for a new king or queen, comes the building of a new royal transport. Emerald Orange OH, the official shipbuilders of the last 6 royal transports, had to build this one on quite the rush with the unexpected death of the Black King (some say he was murdered by his wife Titania). For the previous two rulers, Emerald Orange OH has had a year to plan, and anywhere between a year and 18 months to complete construction. The Obscured Pursuit was delivered in nine and a half months (with crews touching up paint on the backside of the ship even during the inauguration ceremony). Because of this abbreviated building time, another battle-class ship of the line that had just started construction was repurposed for the royal transport instead of starting fresh. This ship had the advantage, while being smaller than its predecessors, of being lighter and much faster. The Shadow Prince insisted on practicality and economy, so many of the luxuries of past royal transports were left off this one. The austerity marked ever inch, from the small bunkrooms - with two single beds, combination desk/storage, and small connecting bathroom, which were the same for everyone onboard regardless of status or rank – to the military-like look of the common areas. The Shadow King liked that many members of the Royal Court complained of the ship’s lack of comfort. He took a certain pleasure in ticking them off by making them live without the excesses of the past.

Crew

The crew of the Obscured Pursuit is a questionable high 1000 average for a ship lacking in so many amenities. And while some of those 1000 were stateroom captains, waiters, and cleaning crew like they would have been on previous ships, the number of security personal that were stationed on this ship was high (for anyone that might notice these things). It was almost if part of the King’s army, 3 of his most well-trained sections, were stationed on the ship with him.

History

The name The Obscured Pursuit was given to the vessel in jest by the Royal Advisor Court, weary of a younger king that was not under their direct control, they were often fond of mocking him in the beginning of his reign as a way of “putting him in his place”. But the Shadow King seemed impervious to such petty attempts. He kept the name knowing it would anger them even more.
