Mire of Agnis
A nightmarish land full of insects, disease, and death
Geography
The Mire of Agnis is located about a day southwest of Lindenwin and can be broke up into 2 (debatably 3) geographical locations.
The first part of the mire is just that, a mire. It is characterized by it's large mossy fields and various sink holes that consists of layers of peat and other sludge built up over the years. There are large stretches of the Mire that are essentially tar pits. These tarpits are never stable and appear to move making it easy to get stuck and consumed by one even when trying to simply skirt the mire. All thing considered, there is an area of the mire where they do seem to appear much more frequently and violently.
The next section is a wetlands forest of sorts that is more akin to a traditional swamp than a bog or fen. Those foolish enough to enter Agnis are generally trying to reach this portion of the Mire as there are some resources unique to Agnis.
Fauna & Flora
The Mire of Agnis is a wetlands forest with large stretches of boglike mires. Like many mires, it primarily consists of peat that has spent a millennia building on top of itself. The main plantlife consists of dense mosses and lichens for the majority of the mire. Deeper in this terms into a more forested bog with large black ash and red maple trees.
The Mire of Agnis is known for being an area dead of life but it is quite the opposite. The Mire is host to a number of reptiles from turtles to alligators to frogs and the such. There are even a few larger game animals such as wild turkey, rabbit and even white tail deer, as well as the predators such swamp wolves and large cats that eat them. Despite the large diversity of animals that can be found here the insects are unquestionably the bulk of the life within the Mires.
Notable standouts:
Ripper Moths
Ripper moths are large 6in-1ft sized moth known for stripping the flesh off of creatures and using it to make their nests. They normally travel in huge swarms and have been said to be able to strip a horse to bone in less than 5 minutes. Their nests can be easily identified as a pulsing sac of rotting flesh that has been chewed and regurgitated to form a thick paste of sorts. Despite their vicious nature, ripper moths do not infact eat meat and primarily feed on the nector of swamp lilies.
Giant insects
While there are a large number of different insects that can grow to be larger than a man, mantis tend to be the ones most reported by those foolish enough to enter the mire. It is not uncommon for these creatures to lurk in waiting beath the peat, waiting for the perfect chance to strike.
Natural Resources

Lost Treasures of Old
Due to the chemical composition of the mire's waters decomposition happens very very slowly within the Mire of Agnis. This has lead to many treasure hunters entering into the wetlands (Particularly the tar pits) looking for merchants and traders who never made it out. There are reports of finding 1000 year weapons that could still cut and even older butter that was still ediable!
Mosquitoes the real killer!
Within the Mire of Agnis there are a number of monstrous creatures and fast acting sink holes, but the real killer is disease. Due the swarms of Mosquitoes that literally block the sun diseases like Malaria and Swamp weakness are common, not to mention the extreme itch!
Agnis Bearstrke
Agnis Bearstrike, for whom the mire was names, was said to be the tallest dwarf anyone had ever seen! He stood 6'3 with a beard from his chin to his belt. Agnis is said to have lived in a cabin on the edge of the Mire and was well known for a bizarre obsession with the fen, often bathing in it and using it to make his infamous brew, "Deadman walking".
These days most don't believe that Agnis ever truly existed, but there are many who believe that he still walks the swamps even today. He was a dwarf after all, known for their long lives and heartiness. **It should be noted that the people of the Wurmshire have never met a dwarf before.
