Prima Cohort

The most elite foot soldiers of Sunreach's legions the prima cohort are an anvil on the battlefield. Capable of defending against most attacks the prima cohort are nigh impossible to strike. When the prima cohort form a shield wall behind their massive tower shields they are exceedingly difficult to strike.

The Prima Cohort are the surviving legionnaires from the battle with Myzorock. The battle was bloody and brutal leaving only a handful of soldiers left. Of the 320 that marched against Myzorock only 102 made it out and now compromise the prima cohort.

Equipment

The Prima Cohort are easily identified with their gleaming lorica segmentata and their massive imposing tower shields. They wield a longsword and carry with them several pilum. They also have several potions to heal themselves with as well as magical rings and cloaks to make it harder to hit them.

Structure

The Prima Cohort are near the top of the legion. They are above normal legionnaires and centurions, but are below to the primi ordine, the mythic variant of the centurions. The only two rank above the primi ordine are the legates and the legate maximus. The prima cohort are capable of giving commands out to lower legionnaires and centurions, but is uncommon as they are usually given tasks separate from the standard legions.

Tactics

The Prima cohort form a massive bulwark with their shields. They sit behind them striking out at the enemy and specialize in wearing down their enemies in a battle of attrition. They are meant to tie down high value enemy targets and wait for the shock elements of the army to flank and destroy them. The prima cohort work closely with the Equite Extrodinarii as a hammer and anvil unit.

Training

Prima Cohort had standard legionnaire training, but is very difficult to train anymore of them as the path to gain mythic powers is difficult. The only reason they have the strength they do is because they were able to survive the battle with Myzorock. Prima Cohorts are only sent on missions they are guaranteed to succeed at or if the situation is beyond desperate. The ranks of Prima Cohort can't be refilled easily and as such are treated carefully.
