Origin Points
Origin Points are places in space where gravity of close or nearby stars or gas giants seems to knot or part a hole in spacetime. These points are incredibly useful in that they make it easier for ships to enter Hydem Space. Some of these points are stronger, some are weaker, and there is great interest in researching artificial versions of these points, though few have been nearly as powerful as any naturally occurring point so far.
Origin Points are Graded on a scale of 1 to 10. Each Grade Value is added to a ship's Hydem score for determining travel time.
Origin Points come in three forms, Solo and Paired:
- Solo Origin Points work as described above, adding their Grade to a passing ship's Hydem Score.
- Paired Origin Points are two points in space-time separated by great distances. They've been marked as close as in system points and as far as whole regions away. When traveling between a pair, the total Hydem Score doubles. When the destination is not the other end of the pair, Solo Origin Point Rules apply.
- Artificial Origin Points generally only have a Grade of 1 and are immeasurably expensive to make and maintain. They also have yet to be successfully Paired. Results of such attempts have been fizzles at best and horrid explosions at worst.
