The Azure Palace
"They talk of the city as a realm of Argia. Clean streets of none but smiling faces, in its center lies a citadel of unearthly blue, unfit for the likes of common man to enter, but the sight of which leaves them weeping with joy."The Azure Palace is the seat of the Amun Dynasty in the city of Kuyoyang. It is forbidden to all but the members of the imperial administration and violation of this mandate is punishable by death. The city is named for its beautiful blue coloration which makes it stand out from the darker grays and browns of the surrounding city.
Purpose / Function
The palace serves as both the family home for the Amun imperial family and as the center for the imperial bureaucracy. There are over 2,000 permanent residents of the palace complex, ranging from scribes to cooks to the emperor himself. The palace and its forbidden nature serves to highlight how the emperor and his government are distinct from the common people, just as the heavens are distinct from the earth.
History
Little is known about the history of the Sheb people prior to the Night of ignorance perpetrated by emperor Wenchal, let alone the history of the Azure palace itself. That being said, the earliest surviving records show Bo-Bae ruling and residing within the palace, indicating that it must have been standing long before his rise to power, possibly existing in one form or another from the earliest days of Kuyoyang, which itself may easily stretch back to well before the Liberty Era, during the period of elven rule over Massaolo.
Tourism
Entry to the palace grounds is forbidden to all but members of the imperial administration. Nonetheless, people still travel from around the world for the chance to see the palace, even from a distance.
