The War of the Orange Rose

"Any excuse was good enough as I understand it. I'd wager both sides were happy with any excuse to start killing one another again."
Junndt Kürkzwon on the War
The War of the Orange Rose was a military conflict between the Grand Principality of Bukoosa and the Grand Duchy of Kondezle that lasted from 551 to 554 L.E.

The Conflict

Prelude

Relations between the Grand Duchy of Kondezle and the Grand Principality of Bukoosa had never been good, but they had been growing steadily worse throughout the 540s due to escalating territorial disputes, accusations of espionage, and Bukoosa's efforts to improve relations with the Kingdom of Ekoya, all of which the Anzelki saw as aggressive moves by the Bokoosans. The last straw came when the the Bokoosan ambassador, likely in a calculated insult, came to court to present a bouquet or orange roses to the duke and duchess as a means of 'apologizing' for the incidents. The duchess of Kondezle was widely known to have an allergy to roses and began sneezing and coughing as soon as the ambassador unveiled his gifts. The Anzelki decried the stunt as an assassination attempt while the Bokoosans presented the incident as the Anzelki callously refusing their attempt at reconciliation. The Bokoosan ambassador was arrested and expelled and war was declared just two days later.
