Tykiw (ˈtykiw)

"Up in the Orbana live yet another group of men who claim no affinity with their widespread kindred. They forsake the gods of the wider world and claim descent from the mountains themselves."
Apostasy of Peoples
The Tykiw are a human culture concentrated primarily in the Orbana Mountains of central Didevob. The Tykiw are one of the handful of human cultures that do not follow a faith that can be described as Tosemuist, causing them to be largely alienated from wider human and elven circles.

Culture

Major language groups and dialects

The Tykiw have their own language which is believed to be a language isolate, meaning is not intelligible by any nearby languages. This is likely due to the isolation provided by the Orbana Mountains and the overall hostility of the outside world's interaction with them. Remarkably few Tykiw speak a second language and those who do report difficulty in doing so, standing in stark contrast to the stereotype of humans being naturally gifted with language acquisition.

Shared customary codes and values

Stoicism
The Tykiw's isolation combined with the difficulties of living in the Orbana Mountains has led them to develop a reputation for being stoic and determined. Many have made attempts at subjugating the Tykiw but none have succeeded.
Communal Responsibility
The Tykiw are a very community oriented people. Each individual is obligated to their family, their house, their clan, and, in many clans, their culture as a whole. Individuality is not often acknowledged in Tykiw society beyond as being part of the collective whole.
Modesty
The Tykiw are noted as being a very modest and humble people, not given to boasting or displaying their achievements. Most insults in Tykiw culture revolve around one having too much pride in themselves.
