Yaginliu

"'Yaginliu' is said to derive from 'land of testing,' I don't need any linguistic training to believe that theory."
Kimo The Traveler
Yaginliu is the mountainous homeland of the Thaven people. It is isolated and few people travel there, but it has nevertheless established itself in the popular consciousness as a harsh and rugged land full of dangerous plants and animals.

Fauna & Flora

Perhaps the most defining part of the region for outsiders is the wide range of deadly plants and animals that are unique to the region. Varieties of Drop Spiders that can measure upwards of a meter long and are perfectly capable of hunting humans or goats are a common example outsiders will think of when the region is brought up. In addition, there are over one hundred unique varieties of scorpions, two dozen varieties of wasps, and ants capable of taking down large prey with their 'acid bombing' tactic where specialized ants will climb up the prey into vulnerable parts, such as eyes and joints before rupturing their bodies and spilling their acid sacks.   Perhaps the most bizarre dangers that the land poses comes not from its fauna, but from its flora. The few trees that survive in the harsh, rocky landscape are said to be as tough as stone even when alive. Nearly every plant found in the region is poisonous to some extent, with the only way to survive off of plants found in the wild being a careful combination of plants with varying toxins that can neutralize each other. The Thaven pride themselves on having tamed and domesticated a wide variety of these plants but still learn the complex combinations of edible plants as part of their coming of age rites.
