Session 65: Return to Castle Feldren Report

General Summary

They plan how to sneak in. They need to seduce an officer and use them to get to the Warden. Then they can use Geas to get the Warden to take them to the prison level. So they go to the inn that officers frequent: The Ironstein Mine.

The tavern is run by a dwarf...

Captain Celia Serrano is there, with the Captain of the guard and a Lieutenant. Shan'tie (disguised magically) and Faeryn (disguised normally) start talking Serrano up and see the sword.

Virion and Mystan are polymorphed and following the others to get into the room. Serrano drops that the Camero is the warden. Despite his mind reading powers, he is seduced. Barely.

Thanks only to Virion being paranoid and casting Private Sanctum on the room, the Warden fails Geas and then is Suggestioned into staying long enough for Virion to cast Modify Memory to remove the memory of being charmed--preventing him from remembering he got charmed.

Menace, meanwhile, somehow convinced Serrano to go into a different room and get tied up (the room is bought for two nights), gagged, and blindfolded. It's pirate roleplay. I hate this table.

The following day, the party decides to stage the break in in the morning. Virion is polymorphed into a mouse in Shan'-tie's pocket, while Mystan is waiting in the town. The plan is to get to Delmirev, polymorph him, get to somewhere where Virion can cast Dimension Door, escape to Mystan, and have Mystan Word of Recall them out.

Shan'-tie has used Bardic Inspiration on Menace, and Menace has the Flame Tongue as a pact weapon. The two are disguised: Menace with a modified uniform off of Serano, while Shan'-tie is illusioned.

At the first prison level they are stopped by two knights and a Wizard--it's Anton.

"I see! Do your worst!"

"Oh, we'll do much better than that!"

Shan'-tie keeps up the ruse, loudly, that they're fake-breaking him out when it's really an interrogation. When it's actually actually a real break out. She then casts Message to the Warden, saying that the interrogation is going well.

Virion Dispels Magic on the shackles. Menace casts Mage Armor on themself, and Shan'-tie holds an action to cast Gravity Sinkhole should the door open.

Virion casts Dispel Magic on the private sanctum. The ruse is maintained.

The warden and Shan'-tie talk telepathically a bit about the interrogation. The ruse is starting to fall apart. Menace holds an action to cast Fireball. Shan'-tie continues to hold the Gravity Sinkhole, and Virion casts Dimension Door, causing Delmirev to be brought to Mystan.

The Warden sees all the Helmed Horrors massing and asks what's going on. They remain silent. Shan'-tie says "make sure we are uninteruppted. I am on the verge of success."

The Warden doesn't buy it.

Shan'-tie gives Menace a Bardic Inspiration and looks to them gravely. She whispers "If we die here, I actually kinda liked you."

"If we die here, my sibling will be fucking pissed because the one thing they said was not to end back up in prison, and look where we are."

Anthon tells the warden to open the door, he agrees, and then the spells drop. The helmed horrors are immune to force and Fireball though! Menace then uses mystic arcanum to cast Investiture of Flame and steps into the doorway.

Menace loses a leg, Flesh to Stone is cast on them, and Shan'-tie casts Synaptic Static. Every single enemy failed and are muddled. A one-legged Menace casts Fire Shield

The Helmed Horrors swarm Menace but the fire kills three and drives the rest off. Shan'-tie then says "Sorry to break your toys!" to Anthon and casts Synaptic Static again. Virion casts another Dimension Door and Anthon tries to Counterspell it, but Virion Counterspells that. Shan'-tie was mid speech and yells at Virion to go retrieve Menace.

Menace, leaning against the wall and wreathed in flame, launches an Eldritch Blast at the retreating Blackguard. One bolt hits, removing the Blackguard's leg. The other two also hit, 10.

Virion teleports back in, and Faeryn drops Investiture of Flame. The Blackguard retreats further, Faeryn drops the Shield of Flame, and Virion teleports them to safety.

Shan'-tie is relieved Menace is alive, and offers a hug. Menace declines. We should go.

Mystan says "Oh gods, what happened to you!?"

"Some bastard cut off my leg! But don't worry, I got him back. I blasted his leg to smitheriness!"

Delmirev asks, "You did what?"

Mystan casts Word of Recall and the group teleports back to the old church. Mystan casts Cure Wounds at fifth level to help Faeryn.

Delmirev gets Serrano's +1 plate armor and her flintlock pistol (don't ask where he got it).

Tonight, the Ghosts of Saltmarsh--along with Delmirev--drink.

Mystan gives Shan'-tie his Brooch of Shielding
