Session 72: Gathering Allies Report

General Summary

Once Marcia and Rodrigo leave, the party discusses strategy. Shan'tie proposes that using Dream the party could appeal to Feldren's hero complex and get him on the front lines to kill him. But Virion points out that if they let him live and fail, that shakes peoples' faith rather than let him take the fall.

Mystan and Virion still haven't cashed in their favors with the Queen of the Sea Princes (or the Queen of the Sea Elves). They debate where to attack.

Mystan considers scrying on Ana Fireborn.

Shan'tie wants to contact the Longest House inside Seaton to ally with them. She also wanted to see if Captain Xendros has her stuff in Saltmarsh. Shan'tie also offers to teleport to the Sea Ghost.

Menace wants to burn things down, especially Saltmarsh's palisade and ships.

Virion wants to focus on logistics and make sea mines or otherwise take out Keoish naval power.

The Dreadwood will attack Seaton in 9 days. Hopefully, the Silverstand will be able to attack Burle by then as well if negotiations fall apart. The party wants to use the Lizardfolk to attack Alliance Tower while Menace is a distraction in Saltmarsh.

Also they want to get the Bronze Dragon and the Medusa on their side.

Shan'tie wants to break Kastillar out of jail before the Equniox.

Mystan sets up his components to scry on Ana Fireborn. He sees her running logistics from a cave at the base of the tower while Uk thin works on a mechanical device. Captain Cillian O Cerin of the Coral Company of the Merfolk surfaces. He discusses how the Coral Company has been patrolling the underwater regions for Keoland, but that it has been intruding on Sea Elf, Locatha, and Lizardfolk territory. Ana Fireborn basically says that it's all alliance territory anyways.

He also hears that Ana thinks the region will be much easier to control once the Pikeman's tercio arrives. A tercio has 3000 soldiers, evenely divided between pikemen, musketeers, and battlemages. Uk thin has never met the Pikeman or her ilk, and Ana Fireborn calls her dangerous. Which would require a Squadron's worth of ships, led by a fucking Rear Admiral. If the empire is sending that, they must both expect large naval battle and a large infantry battle... and have control of Port Ountzous.

Mystan and Virion consider cashing their favors in with the Sea Princes to get the naval power to fend off an entire Squadron. Menace warns Ciaran about the Alliance Tower patrols, and the party thinks they can use their blockade runner picking up Kindbleeder from the Lizardfolk Lair as a messenger to the Queen Captain. They could also get the Sea Elves on board. And the Locatha too, sure.

Considering how many infantrymen they're transporting, Virion figures they don't have much in the way of marines on this Squadron. Therefore, a simultaneous attack from priate ships and underwater forces would probably be quite effective.

Mystan considers more about Jhar and the Medusa. Jhar could be an effective contact for marshalling underwater forces. Mystan considers the fact the Orb of Dragonkind exists gives Jhar and Scourge a common interest. The Medusa, meanwhile, can at the very least be a useful solo unit for defense or something. Maybe pair her with a blindsight unit. If they exist.

Menace considers that the Medusa may not be the best ally given she could petrify everyone else. Mystan points out they should at least give her a heads up on what's going on.

To negotiate with the longest house, finally, after 2 hours of discussion, they decide to talk with the Longest House. Shan'tie can use invisibility or disguse self to get into town. Menace refuses to go into town, and Mystan fears he would be too loud. So Shan'tie uses invisibility to sneak herself and Virion into the city. They learn two things: one, the hippogrif riders are all over the skies, and two, the guard are reinforced and have identification papers now.

Fen's in charge now, and lets in the invisible Shan'tie and Virion in. Shan'tie says crazy shit and then Fen turns to Virion after explaining that the Dreadwood isn't going to magically spare just this building (and kids). Shan'tie proposes a raven crest, and Virion a massive potlach to give everyone access to it.

Meanwhile, Mystan and Menace play dragonchess. Despite neither of them knowning the game, they both do well but Mystan wins the first round, and then barely the second round.

Shan'tie goes out ahead of Dragon Company tomorrow morning and casts 9 Halluncity Terrains. They then teleport back to the church with Word of Recall.

Virion debriefs Black Axe on their folks, and discuss his gift. He also reports the wild flame pact negotiations are breaking down even further. Virion warns Black Axe about Dragon Company, unaware 90% will die.

They rest, and then it's the 34th. 180 soldiers fall to their fucking deaths, and Serrano and 20 troops enter Saltmarsh. It's so haunted now.

Shan'tie casts Disguise Self and then Teleport to go to Saltmarsh. In a bar bathroom. The Snapping Lines' bathroom. With gay sex.

Shan'tie leaves, goes to the west side, uses two Locate Persons to find the Shield Guardian and Ferrin Kastillar in the jail. With 20 guards. And Kastillar is casting Create Food and Water. She plans to wait until tomorrow to teleport them out after the Shield Guardian busts Kastillar out.

Meanwhile, the rest of the party canoes, camps, and play cards. Menace wins against Mystan and horribly loses to Virion.

They canoe further down to the Lizardfolk Lair, arriving on midday on the 35th. Turns out, the lizardfolk have been making guard drakes!

The party is planning for the Lizardfolk to attack Alliance Tower with Mystan, Virion, and Shan'tie while Menace sets fire in Saltmarsh. Minister Sauriv agrees, though he'll need to speak with Queen Othokent and the Scourge of Hool. Having like, 100 lizardfolk, a handfull of drakes, and a dragon attacking Alliance Tower with 3 powerful spellcasters while troops are drawn to Saltmarsh by Menace's distradtion. They also have lots of weapons and armor from the Sahuagin. So even with around 200 people at Alliance Tower, especially if the ships are sunk immediately.

Virion wants to sink the sailing ships in the harbor and steal the warship. The party plans for the Lizardfolk to attack the harbor. Irthos the Subchief has up to 3rd level Cleric spells and the three Shammans have up to 3rd level Druid spells. So they can do things like Spirit Guardians and Heat Metal.

Mystan can help lead the Lizardfolk in taking the ships in the harbor while Virion and Shan'tie clear out entrances to the Harbor. Once the Warship is taken, Virion and Shan'tie operate as leaders of shock troops heading up to the tower to soften up defenses, while the rest of the Lizardfolk and Mystan go up to the tower. Bubbles can be Clover's PC, with a detachment of the Locatha and the Sea Elves, via Mystan casting Sending to Bubbles.

The party considers the Silverstand as waiting for a response. Or at least be informed as ready for the Equinox.

Meanwhile, Shan'tie is in Saltmarsh. She wildshapes into a spider. She goes into the cell with her spirit guard. She then unwildshapes as a bonus action and commands it to bend the bars of its cell, then the bars of Kastillar's cell, and then she animates the broken bars.

Kastillar, the Shield Guardian, and Shan'tie get back to the church safely. And they kick Fireborn in the dick.

Mystan speaks with the Scourge of Hool who agrees to attack with them. Also, Shan'tie got her Cli Lyre. Back.

The party stays in the Lizardfolk Lair, planning to talk with the Bronze Dragon and negotiate with the Black Dragon, contact Bubbles, and check on the Silverstand.
