Raul Moreno - The Styes. The council has confirmed the worst; Rolsar Stronghold was abandoned. The upriver stronghold served as a foothold of imperial power, guarding the headwaters of the Kasilœ River ever since the Peninsular Colonies were founded. An Imperial Investigation indicates the disappearance likely occurred within the last month. No signs of a struggle were found within the main chambers, though several instances of magically shifting and warded graffiti have been left by trespassers.
Rolsar Stronghold last communicated with the outside world in the second week of Silver, when a supply convoy delivered enough grain to last the clan three fortnights. Following convoys were not allowed in, prompting an investigation, spearheaded by Imperial Detective Kroaton Pelocobre (Copperlocks). Said investigation has kept a tight lid on their findings over the past month, but new statements released last night shed little light on the situation unfolding at the Stronghold.
“We have yet to locate the antechambers” Copperlocks said in a press release, “Without a living member of the Rolsar clan to show us the entrance, all secret rooms beyond the antechambers are unreachable without an excavation. The Emperor has not authorized the excavation of a stronghold, citing religious concerns.”
Councilman Landgrave has reassured the public that this sudden disappearance last month is not tied to the string of robberies that occurred on the Island of Pleasure under the light of Izdu’s Comet, which was visible on the 32nd of Silver during the evening. Several occult groups, citing native Jan Pana superstitions, deemed the comet a bad omen. The string of robberies – and now disappearances – are implied to have been caused by the comet. As previous issues of this paper have stated, correlation does not equal causation. Comets are regular astronomical events, and the superstitions of knife-ears like Councilman Dsbk’saal do not make them special.
“It is not out of the question that the Empire of the Silver Crown or Duergar may be behind this,” an investigator who wished to remain anonymous said, “It is possible, however unlikely, that the clan chambers were breached in an underground attack. Thus, the clan could’ve been taken by surprise, with no evidence being found without access to the antechambers.”
The Silver Crown strongly denies any such accusations: “Our glories crown the Silver Peaks, and such threefold splendors need not bother themselves with backwater colonial strongholds,” a courtier of the Silver Crown stated, “We have no desire to take the Peninsular Colonies from Keola.” Recent events around Waveknight say otherwise, though the Silver Crown denies any involvement in that attack as well. More about Waveknight on page 9.
Summary of Investigation
The main gate was breached via arcanum on the 4th of Slaying. The following fortnight of investigating yielded the following:
- No corpses, blood, disintegrated powder, teleportation scorching, or other traces of the missing (or their bodies) were discovered, except in the gatehouse, where the clear residue of Dimension Door was discovered. It is unclear who cast the spell, or when.
- The sealed underground nature of strongholds makes it difficult to date these residues.
- Visible storerooms indicated a week’s worth of food in reserve. As antechambers could not be penetrated, hidden stockpiles are unknown
- No internal breaches or alternative entrances were located.
- The main gate was locked from the inside. No signs of prior attempts at forced entry were detected.
- The forges had been cleared of all charcoal and ash. No charcoal reserves or wastes were found.
- This indicates that the disappearance occurred shortly after a cleaning, the forges were cold, or looters seized all reserves and wastes.
- Despite the lack of evidence regarding prior entries, the entire stronghold was vandalized with glyphs. Such graffiti bore typical slogans, but all attempts at cleaning or dispelling them were met with magical frustration.
- The graffiti appears to be quite powerfully warded. Our seer suffered a seizure when trying to decipher the wards on the graffiti. He was shipped to hospital in the Heartland and a new seer was requested. No new seer has been sent.
- As the antechambers could not be located (due to our seer being taken out of commission), we were unable to ascertain the status of the Nursery, Treasury, Abbey, or Graveyard of the stronghold.
No conclusions can be drawn from this information. Local Jan Pana groups do not appear to have had contact with the clan since they disappeared, nor do any nearby towns (i.e. the Styes). Abandonment in favor of the outside world therefore seems unlikely. Internal struggle or breached secret chambers are suspected but lacking the antechambers nothing is certain. Maps depicting the known stronghold are attached.

Missing Ship Report - Styes City Guard
Report filed by Captain Serrano
Tip made by Councilman Briñon Landgrave, 7:03 AM 33rd of Silver 67 IA
This morning, Councilman Briñon Landgrave informed the guard that his prize ship, a yatch known as the Sanguine Jewel, went missing overnight. There is no sign of the ship in harbor or in the immediate region visible from shore.
Search vessels found no trace of the Sanguine Jewel within ten miles of the Styes, and the ship does not appear to have sunk into the harbor.
Due to Izdu’s comet on the night of the disappearance, all were either inside or looking up at the sky, thus a ship slipping away in the night went relatively unnoticed. Questioning dockworkers confirmed that a group of short individuals were seen boarding the ship, and at least one fishing vessel – Pleasurefish’s Bounty – passed a ship with red sails matching the Sanguine Jewel’s that night.
Councilman Dsbk-saal has denied any involvement of the Msxl-xld. This is supported by the few eyewitnesses present; the silhouetted figures boarding the ship were too short to be elves. Littlefolk are suspected, however no substantial Littlefolk populations have lived in the Kasilœ river system since the 49 IA Treaty of Arrowshore
The ship is considered stolen, and the council has released a 1000gp reward for anyone who can return the ship to Sir Landgrave.
Señor Landgrave has also produced illusory copies of a painting of the ship he had commissioned some year ago, which we have distributed to captains, along with a warning that the pirate crew may be hostile.
Letter from Pontifice Sanche Sacerdocie to Ministre Uldarike Sacerdocie
12th Clan-Time 67 IA
Dearest Ministres of Rolsar Stronghold,
Reports of Minstre Uldarike Sacerdocie and the rest of your cathedral teaching blasphemies about the source of divinity have not gone unnoticed by the Obispes, nor myself. The Sagas del los Santos are clear, and if you must be recalled to the heart of Keola to review the original inscriptions then do so. Moradin was born of the world, Impío left behind. The All-Father shaped existence, and Impío sought entropy within it. Divinity does not come from the stars. The four elements are The Deep’s realm, not that of God. Impío is the raw material, Moradin shapes it. Any other position is neither substantiated by scripture nor true.
If these rumors reach the ear of Emperador Kocia, you will surely be executed. I care about you, Ministre Uldarike, like Bienvienida cares for her children. Seek Saint Conrado’s strength in vanquishing this theological poison from your mind, and return to teaching Clan Rolsar the Truth. Their name invokes the churning of the Deep one, do not attribute their patron’s holdings to his brother.
Sincerely,
Pontifice Sanche Sacerdocie of Kocia Stronghold
