Welcome to Matelo Kaloje
Matelo Kaloje is the name of the world, but the most detailed area is the region surrounding the Cobalt Sea; i.e. the Salmon Coast. The cobalt sea lets out into, and is heavily tied to, the oceans known to the Imperial Powers as Procans Depths.
Within the area of the Salmon Coast, the native Jan Pana live within and around the settler colonies of the Empire of Keoland and Empire of the Silver Crown. These emergent dwarven empires rule the land and seas with technological superiority and maintain a diverse network of vassal states, overseas colonies, and conquered territories. Glorious works of archiceture and magic rest on laurels built atop slavery, piracy, and exploitation. The region has recently recovered from the Cobalt Reconquista, a war between the Hold of the Sea Princes and Keoland. Now, new threats brew from within as tensions within and between the Empires and their subjugated peoples rise. Shadowy organizations manipulate the world, and old foes emerge from deep in the ocean...
Matelo Kaloje is a world heavily shaped by it's unique geography - namely the World's Arch, a massive set of planetary rings that encircle the world, casting Ringshadow during the winter - and the many bodies of water that encircle the globe. Ringshadow adds a new climate barrier, mountains seperate surface-dwellers but serve as homes for dwarves and goliaths. Cities hug rivers and coastlines, while nomadic fishfolk dwell just beneath the waves. From the deepest depths of the underdark to the very rings themselves, Matelo Kaloje is a magical planet teeming with people, monsters, strange plants, and everything inbetween.
Heavily inspired by the colonial history of the Americas and the native peoples of the Pacific Northwest, and built specifically for Wizards of the Coast's Ghosts of Saltmarsh, Matelo Kaloje is a world ripe for adventure, full of guns, magic, and steel.
