Urame (Er-a-may)
Dwelling in the dimness of Skovasil, the Urame more closely resemble black bears and are much stealthier than other Ursan. Primarily dwelling in trees instead of caves, the urame can also see better in dim light, but are less physically imposing and don't have quite as good of a sense of smell.
Culture
Major language groups and dialects
Like all ursan, the urame struggle to learn new languages, and thus usually are only found speaking Ursan and small amounts of Skov Common. They are much more likely to pick up Neko, Chirat, or Halfling, due to their close proximity to the homelands of those races.
Average technological level
Like most urasan, the urame prefer to keep things simple, and use little in the way of technology.
Common Etiquette rules
The urame are very protective of their territory, and thus it is unwise to enter ones home area unannounced.
Common Dress code
Like most ursan, a urame's coat of fur keeps it plenty warm even in the perpetual gloom of Skovasil night, and thus have little need for clothing.
Art & Architecture
Most urame forge buildings for simple forest dens that are easily concealable, often with multiple entrances and exits. They often expand on treetop canopies so that they can easily climb above the forest and keep an eye on things from above.
Common Customs, traditions and rituals
Like a majority of ursan, the urame hibernate in the winter, when the temperature of Skovasil drops to a level that even their thick fur coats cannot adequately protect them.
Birth & Baptismal Rites
While not well documented, it is believed that urame perform extensive prayers and blessings over newborns in order to grant them divine protections from the many dangers that lurk in the darkness of Skovasil.
Coming of Age Rites
To leave home, an urame youth must successfully sneak out of its mothers territory to find its own, which is no easy task, as a cubs mother is always alert to the movement of her cubs.
Funerary and Memorial customs
Urame bury the bodies of their dead in hidden forest spots known only to the one who buries it, and uses nothing but their memory to mark the site.
Common Taboos
Revealing things that an urame has hidden, whether that be a person, location, or secret, will cause you to lose the friendship of the urame forever.
Common Myths and Legends
A majority of urame worship Me, the ursan goddess of stealth and protection, but can still be found worshiping other members of the ursan pantheon.
Ideals
Beauty Ideals
Do to their desire to remain unseen, it is believed that the urame don't base any of their beauty ideals after physical standards. Instead, attractiveness is based solely on skill, accomplishment, and scent. However, the urame share vary little of their personal practices, and much is left to speculation.
Gender Ideals
Like most ursan, the mother is in charge of raising the cubs, and the father plays little role in family life, but otherwise the genders are equal.
Courtship Ideals
Most urame play elaborate games of hide-and-seek with their potential mates, as one must prove themselves worthy of being able to find and sneak up to the other one.
Relationship Ideals
Ursan mothers are extremely overprotective of their cubs, even by ursan standards, and this can often transfer to non-ursan friends. Many ursan also have diffuculty with respecting the personal privacy of other races, often secretly watching them from afar, either to keep a protective eye out for them or to ensure that they have no sinister plans brewing toward the urame race.
Major organizations
Even more than other ursan, urame prefer to keep to themselves, rarely joining large organizations. Small, rural towns often petition a nearby Urame to help aid its town guard, offering it free food in exchange for the urame keeping watch for threats wandering in from the outskirts.
