Personal history
Early life
Starker was born in Oxelöbacka, Jestoania, to a relatively well-off family. During an economic slump, however, they lost most of their funds, and he was forced to drop out of medical school to help them with their failing business.
He accepted a job with the widespread criminal underground who needed a doctor. With half a degree and no money, Starker was one of their few willing options. He did multiple surgeries, often surrounded by armed men, and was able to support his family, even if he couldn't support his own conscience.
Military duty
During the latter part of the Aquimore-Vohai war, Starker served as surgeon aboard multiple ships, occasionally being stationed on shore in forts as well. During this, he was forced to defend himself after several enemy soldiers broke into the fort he was stationed in, making it to the field hospital he was working at. When Vohai soldiers arrived to defend the hospital, they found three dead Aquimore soldiers, and Starker sewing his own wounds shut.
Post-War
In the aftermath of the war, Starker went home for a time. During this, he ended up accidentally killing a well-known patient. Fearing the consequences, he fled, once again sailing with the Vohai navy. Here he found a companion in the form of a stray cat that had ended up on the ship. The ship he was serving on hit a storm in the Broshan islands, and was sunk, leaving Starker and his cat the only survivors. Huddled on a piece of driftwood, he watched as eels dragged the remains of his crewmates under the surface. He floated in the wreckage for two days. Half-delirious from dehydration and heat, he initially thought the ship approaching him was a hallucination. It wasn't, however, and he was brought aboard the Hydra's Curse, a pirate vessel. Upon realizing he was a doctor, the crew held his cat hostage and demanded he perform surgery on one of their crewmates, Liam Grimm, who was suffering from an infected gash in his leg. Starker performed the operation without incident, and had his cat returned to him. Ultimately he remained onboard, finding few other options that didn't end with his arrest or death.Failures & Embarrassments

There's no reason why the two can't exist at the same time. Maybe the Pantheon was just used to stop worship of the Old Gods. Maybe they're just concepts and used to tell parables. Maybe they're as real as Qhil herself. It doesn't change my faith. Same as it doesn't change yours. --Starker to OromignaBelieves wholeheartedly in the Pantheon, but notably doesn't object to many of his crewmates' belief in Qhil.
