Aiden (God of Knowledge)

Aiden is the God of Knowledge. In his mortal life he was a master of the Arcane Brotherhood, the brother of Thera, and the husband of the lost goddess Timandra.

Divine Symbols & Sigils

The Holy symbol of Aiden is a goose feather quill. This quill is kept in a small glass box on a chain around the priest's neck. Most priests of Aiden dress plainly and wear the clothes of a scribe. They have rituals they cast on books and other tomes to protect them from theft and the ravages of time. The temples of Aiden are actually Libraries. The priest maintains the library, and will allow the public to look at the books, for a price. Either the person seeking entrance must pay 100 gold per 6 hours of study (or part thereof), or donate a tome not currently in the library. The worth of the tome determines the length of time they person may study. The books cannot be taken out of the library, but copies can be commissioned for the cost of 3gp per page.   Favored Weapon: Dagger   Holy Symbol: Goose Quill Pen

Tenets of Faith

The priesthood of Aiden believes Knowledge is a sacred force and that it must be protected at any cost. They tend to amass large libraries and to work as sages to increase the knowledge of the world. They seek to protect books and fight against censorship. The Church of Aiden does not seek knowledge simply for its own sake. They believe that the calling of the Church is to gather knowledge to be put to good purposes.   Quotes of Faith:   "At the basis of all things is the Word, and the Word is life and truth. Beyond the sun, and moon, beyond the heavens and hells, the Word shines forth as a light in darkness. I tell you, the Word is the only truth and the ultimate goodness, and those that deny the Word shall live in darkness unending." Via Logos 1: 1-3     "We can do nothing greater to honor His name than see the Word cast abroad into the world again, across all lands and realms. Evil exists, it lives and breathes, and it cannot be denied. As such, there lays upon us all a dread responsibility to set ourselves against evil and see it stopped, to declare ourselves for the cause of righteousness and work towards the joy and security of all." Via Logo 20: 6-9     "The shadows of evil blinds men's eyes to the Word, those that would follow Aiden's ways and strengthen the Word, must strive always against the darkness. Remember always, what Aiden spoke of evil: There is no place for the dead among the living, no place for monsters in civilization, no place for evil within goodness, and no hope of peace until wickedness is cast out of our world forever." Via Logos: 4 5-6.
