Northreach

Northreach forms the northern border of the Sea of Shards, and is an arctic, inhospitable place. The area is filled with monsters and savage Northmen that raid the islands and the ports of the sea.

Geography

The southern edges of Northreach are the rocky, jagged shores of the Sea of Shards. It is only due to the warm currents of the ocean that this area is generally kept above freezing.
As one moves north, the land is quickly taken over by ice and snow broken only by stony outcroppings and forests of thick pine trees. Only during the height of the summer are the frozen rivers of Northreach thawed enough to move at the surface, so for much of the year the only source of water are hot springs surrounding a few volcanic vents spread throughout the reach. Without fail, what little civilization can be found in Northreach are cluttered around these vents.

Fauna & Flora

While there are some small conclaves of human Northmen in the reach, it is mostly a land of monsters. Highest on the food chain are the warring lords of North Reach: the white dragons and the Frost Giants, who battle for territory in the highest peaks of the reach.
Common in the lowlands are packs of Yeti, and other horrible monstrosities such Remorhaz and Eyes of Frost. These and other threats hunt the many adventuring groups that brave the ancient ruins hidden beneath the ice.
Most of the plant life found in Northreach are contained within clusters of alpine forests that cling to the mountain valleys and provide what little wood is available in the reach. These valuable resources are fought over by the creatures civilized enough to make use of them.
The most famous plant found in Northreach is the Shyrah, a deep blue/white plant whose blossoms are a powerful narcotic, which fetches high prices in the southern markets. Shyrah cannot be cultivated outside of Northreach, so many traders hunt the plant in the tundra plains of the reach.
