The Well of Sebram

Many know that the Sea of Shards was created when a magical stone of great power was destroyed in the Eastern Spine Mountains. This explosion was so massive that it destroyed the entire mountain range and sunk the land beneath the sea.   What is mostly unknown is that the mountains concealed great caverns that descended into the core of the world. The magical energies released during the explosion descended into the very core of the planet and created a well of uncontrolled magical energy that coalesced around the island known as Sebram. Arcanists that studied the phenomenon named it the Well of Sebram.

Manifestation

While there is very little physical manifestation of the Well, its effects are well documented. The continual exposure to uncontrolled magical energies radically increases the prevalence of sorcerers born in the area of effect.   The excessive magic also draws many magical creatures to the Sea of Shards, including various dragons, kraken and other sea based creatures.   Lastly, the borders between the planes are easily pierced in the well, leading many who would study the planes to travel to the well to observe and conduct magical experiments.

Localization

The Well of Sebram covers an area roughly 200 miles across in the North Eastern side of the Sea of Shards. This covers most of the island of Sebram. It is visible to those using abilities to detect magic and shows itself as a weak background magical effect that grows stronger as one travels to the center of the effect, and stronger still as one dives below the surface of the water at the center.   Some underwater creatures that have been consulted indicate that at the bottom of the sea under the Well is a great hole in the bottom of the sea that no known being has been able to descend into and survive. Even if one could get past the numerous great beasts of the sea that gather around the pit, the immense cold and water pressure serve as a near impossible barrier.
