Conflict with the Bronze Dragon, Stormbolt, nearly destroyed the town.

In the spring of 157, the Bronze Dragon known as Stormbolt attempted to annex the city of Kayle’s Bay into his territory. At first, he offered the people safety in exchange for their fealty, but the people of Kayle’s Bay had prospered from their independence since the fall of the Quall Dynasty and had no desire to bend knee to anyone.
  Feeling like they had to strike first, the people of Kayle’s Bay hired the White Cloak Company, an adventuring guild, to slay the dragon. The company failed, and the attempt on his life enraged Stormbolt. The Dragon attacked the city and inflicted heavy casualties on it before being taken down by another group of adventurers lead by the wizardess Tirani Voss. Since his death, many adventuring companies have searched for the sea caves that held Stormbolt’s legendary horde, but it has yet to be found.
