Tensions between the Dwarven Clans begin to cause trouble for the dwarven hope of a united kingdom.
As the dwarves of the south entered
the city the kingdom began to grow at an
exponential rate, but so did the friction
between the different clans. Each dwarven
clan is connected by a single trade that they
specialize in. In a normal dwarven city that
clan would have complete control over all
aspects of that trade from education of crafts-
dwarfs to the pricing and availability of
production. However, in the now unified
kingdom there were multiple clans that had
previously controlled the same trade in
different kingdoms.
In a few cases this was solved by
arranged marriages to unite the clans into
larger, and more powerful, clans. But in many
cases this caused the clans to resist working
together and start competing with one
another. This introduced a level of chaos in
the dwarfs usually orderly lives that rapidly
became a problem. With the amount of work
now split between multiple clans there were
more workers than the kingdom needed. In
this competitive environment, the younger
and less skilled clans were not able to get as
much work as the more established clans,
which lead to the fall of many smaller clans
and the formation of slums where these
broken families ended up. Naturally, this
inequality soon led to the growth of crime
within the city, and paralyzed the Council of
Thanes on how to respond. The new
kingdom was reaching a boiling point.
